Prince George, B.C.- Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and today,   that hero  has  four legs and a wet nose.

He is "Baron" a police service dog in Prince George, and if it weren't for his keen  nose,  a Prince George woman  may have perished in the cold.

Early this morning  Baron and his handler were called into  action to help track  a woman who was suffering from medical conditions, and believed to be in need of urgent medical care.

Police were told the woman  had left her residence near Ospika and Massey Boulevards and had not  yet returned.

Around 1:00 am, Baron  had successfully tracked the woman to a wooded  area about 20 meters  from a trail in Ginter's Field..  She had collapsed, was barely conscious and unable to speak or walk.

Officers carried her to waiting paramedics.  She was transported by the BC Ambulance Service to the University Hospital of Northern BC for treatment.  In addition to her on-going medical condition, it was learned that she was severely hypothermic at the time she was found.

"The dedication of our officers, including 'Baron', is second to none" says Inspector Brad Anderson, the officer in charge of Operations for the Prince George RCMP.  "I am very proud of the work they do every day to help members of this community."
