Jury Likely to Begin Deliberations in the Matters Inquest Today
Prince George, B.C. – The inquest into the death of Gregory Matters on Sept. 10 of 2012, is expected to enter the jury deliberation stage later today.
Independent Investigations Office investigator Rob Stutt is to return to the stand this morning, he is the last witness scheduled to testify.
With cross examination of the last witness set for this morning, it is possible Coroner Chico Newell could deliver his instructions to the jury by lunchtime.
The jury will then retire to make its determination on when, where and how Gregory John Matters died.
The jury is also expected to make recommendations that are designed to prevent such a tragedy from occurring in the future. It has already been suggested a recommendation could be that the RCMP receive more training in the use of all less lethal options available to them.
The jury cannot assess blame.
