Semi Rolls Near Red Rock Scales

Wednesday, January 29, 2014 @ 10:43 AM

Prince George- Another Semi has rolled over on highway 97 south of Prince George. This rig rolled over at about 8.00 this morning,  about 22 kilometers south of Prince George, in the vicinity of the new weight scale.

There is no report of injuries. Police and CVSE  are continuing their investigation,  and no other details are available.

I ask again, why does it seem that this is happening so often with semis? Is it because this site and other news sources are reporting those incidents more often, or are they occurring more often? I know that this has been a year of unusually high such incidents with logging trucks throughout the province.

gotta get to the rodeo!

Decades ago, many commercial vehicles were equipped with a crude “black box” – a mechanical chart recorder (referred to as a stool pigeon) that tracked engine RPM/time to monitor engine performance and driving habits. I’m led to believe that these days, trucks come equipped with much more sophisticated monitoring capabilities built in. Manufacturers use the data for warranty claims, etc. is this true? Can users turn it off? I would think this would be good info to verify speed, braking, etc. when vehicles are involved in an accident.

Notice the snow on the B class route ? Thanks again minister of transport . Up hill in snow . Who’s going to speed ?

Speeding can also include driving too fast for road conditions and that is obviously the case here.
We live in the north, there is going to be snow on the road at times no matter what the classification.

Maybe it’s the schools that are pumping them out like crazy to meet the demand..

Or got a new breed on the road with attitude.

ohhh what the helll Can’t resist it.. It’s Green..

Did he have now tires?

With the upgrading of the local highways and supposedly plows on the roads more often I wonder how long before complaints of traffic being held up start.

Same old crap with road conditions.Yrb saving money by not sending there trucks out to maintain the roads.tarnfeather users can not turn ecm data.I think what is needed is that yrb should have to turn in an ECM download every month to see how many hrs, idle time,kh’s and time of day that each piece of equipment has worked. The report could be turned into the person that is paying the bill each month.Who know’s maybe it would be less exspensive to have the work paid by the hr and running a full 24 hr coverage.

Seems to me the travelled section of the road has a heck of a lot of traction material on it.

So which trucker is going to hazard a guess or two how this could happen going uphill. Does not look like the rollover was caused by a ditch.

Minister of transport Todd stone , mla for kamloops and south Thompson . He’s doing a great job for us . Thanks Todd . Your riding is class A right ? Good thing most of the winter will be over by the time we are upgraded for more plowing , sanding and upgrades . Is it going to change February 1st or February 28th ? Have you ever driven to prince Rupert in the winter Todd ? I’m sure most of us would love to see you try it just once but I’m sure you would have the good sense to fly . Looks like red rock could have used a little more plowing and sanding this morning . Don’t you think ?

I have never seen so many traffic analysts on a website. COULD it possibly be medical, loss of steering, maybe load levellers let go on that side you just don’t know. AS for all you armchair class oners get off your duff and go ahead pull a loaded b-train maxed out in the winter in the middle of the night in a blinding snowstorm for twenty years then come talk to me about how easy it was. LET me tell you driving your 4 wheeler or fancy import doesn’t even come near to what its like pulling some of the loads that a driver does day in and day out.

Well said ICE ! The guys hauling almost everything we need for our lives deserve all the help and respect they can get . Thanks for helping to fill my belly , bringing me the clothes on my back and the shoes on my feet . You deserve better from all of us and better road conditions . Keep the rubber side down .

So sorry . There are lots of women also behind the wheel of the big rigs . A huge thanks and respect too .

Do you have a patent on your crystal ball?

See all the fresh scratch on the northbound lane?

The rear of the trailer in the top photo gives a good indication which way the trailer was moving when in flipped into the snow bank.

I’m thinking a possible mechanical problem here two things, first why is the tractor detached from its trailer, second how is it the tractor is laying on its opposite side to its trailer. A possible cause to the accident was too much snow for traction causing the truck to spin out and start sliding backwards , but that doesn’t explain my first two queries.

Yes it is very odd that the tractor is detached from the trailer. That VERY seldom happens unless the pin lock wasn’t fully engaged somehow.
