Volunteer 101 At CNC Tonight

Monday, February 3, 2014 @ 3:55 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Closing in on one year  until  the Canada Winter Games get underway in Prince George, and  the 2015 Games Society is offering  “Volunteer 101”.

Tonight and  again on  Wednesday, February 5th,  the 2015 Winter Games Society is  hosting  sessions to  teach folks more about the roles of  Games Services Managers and Venue Operations.

The Venue Operations Team is made up of volunteer hosts from all of the functional areas like: sport, media relations, ceremonies, security, transportation, food services, IT and equipment, environmental services, VIP Hosting, etc. The team members act as representatives for their particular service and manage the team at that venue  for the two weeks of the Games.

“People who volunteer on a Venue Team become very close knit,” says Christine Nicholls, Manager, Volunteer Workforce. “They become like an operational family, welcoming guests into the venues, and ensuring that all of those specific services within the building are operating at their top potential.”

And you get to do  it all while  at a venue where  your favourite sport  is underway.

There is a special information session  set for this evening at CNC  in room 1-306.  It is set to start at 6:30.

The session on Wednesday is also at  CNC,  but in room 1-723.  It will also start at 6:30.

Those interested are encouraged to attend  one of the sessions at  CNC to learn more.

Sounds like they are getting desperate

They took our money…..now they want our time…..

Bcracer – not even close :)
Maybe you should come out, get involved in the community a little. I promise it will be more rewarding than bellyaching on news blogs all day ;)

interceptor I am involved in more volunteer stuff than you know… and I will “bellyache” as you call it if I feel it is worth the time…and this Canada Winter Games is the most useless function that has ever come to our city…short of a Cougars game and the extended airport runway.
And I don’t care if you disagree with me or not. You are entitled to your opinions. But it is sad when people have to turn to personal attacks when they have nothing else to say.

I don’t believe I was personally attacking, just suggesting that the games are coming regardless so it might be more fun to be involved. If you do volunteer work, good for you.

I agree with bcracer. Such comments are really uncalled for when one does not have the faintest clue who one is addressing. The way it is phrased, it implies bcracer does not get involved and can actually get involved.

We do not know the age, the other things one must do, the restrictions one may have that makes it difficult to get involved.

Most people do not want to identify themselves for some very good reasons. The keep a protective cloak, and thus are vulnerable to unwarranted attacks on their person.

It is one of the problems, as well as one of the advantages of using this medium to connect with others.

Gus; this pimple faced student, studying for exams, in my parent’s basement concurs with your comments and observations;-)

Why is interceptor’s comment uncalled for, while making a flippant comment about games organizers ‘sounding desperate’ ok? And who made gus the judge of which comments are uncalled for vs. Those that are acceptable?

I for one am not happy with the Winter Games coming to PG. It doesn’t interest me personally, but that is not the reason I don’t want it to come here. I don’t think the city of Prince George will benefit much from it, and the costs have to be a lot. When we are having a hard time keeping the roads here in the winter currently up to par, and with so many other issues of money that seem to have cropped up, I think the money spent could of been used better. Why not let some other city host it and let them foot the bill instead of us.

It believe it will be a money making event for a few and the rest of us will pick up the costs….that is my perspective…

if those who had the birght ideas to bring this here were picking up the tab, I would say with a resounding cheer…GO FOR IT… but I fear it is we who will be footing a big chunk of the bill once this is over, and they will walk away with a smile on their faces and a jingle in their pockets…

“who made gus the judge of which comments are uncalled for vs. Those that are acceptable?”

I am trying to figure that out as well. Lots of people put their 3 cents worth in on that in many threads. Just another opinion. Just like yours, JB …. ;-)

BTW, JB …. do you have a magic lens through which you can see the posters? Aren’t you in a wheelchair, or deaf, like most of us? :-)

I don’t discriminate, I hate all people equally. ;-)
