Week’s Worth of Celebration To Herald One Year till 2015 Games
Prince George, B.C. – The 2015 Canada Winter Games team will be very busy next week as they roll out events to mark the one year countdown to the opening ceremonies in Prince George.
On Wednesday, they will be at the BC Legislature to talk to MLA’s and promote the Games
On Thursday, the 13th ( the real one year marker) there will be a dedication of a new plaque at Canada Games House at 5th and Quebec. This is the third in a three plaque series. The first was unveiled in 2012 and recognized the funding partners for the games. The second was unveiled in 2013 and celebrated the citizens of Prince George, and the one to be unveiled Thursday will officially recognize the volunteers who make the Games possible.
The three plaques will eventually be placed at the corner of highway 16 and 97 at the Prince George welcome sign.
Then on Valentine’s Day, the big party at the CN Centre with Hedley on stage. When folks come out of that concert they will see a major fireworks display.
On Saturday the 15th, it’s the official opening of the Kin1 to be followed by a free community skate.

WHY is NO ONE asking the right questions about this event? So obvious, so many problems here. Not one media place has asked how much is being paid to the people who are getting rich off this event. Then they want to put all the work on the volunteers??????? WTH is that??????? Why would anyone in their right mind volunteer for this? It’s insane. Think of how much money had to be offered for some of these people to leave the jobs they had for a short stint job with these games. THats your tax money, people! It better end up being one hellova party!
The business comunity is already clapping their hands. So why worry.
cheers
One year till we go deeper in debt by leaps and bounds, two years till we see tax increases that will make us hurl.
yah and the million+ paid per year to staff it, watch them all move and take that tax money with them
I would like to see a concerted effort to get some lighting in place before the games.
Street lighting in PG is very sub standard. The Hart Highway should be street lighted from the bridge all the way to North Kelly. Its horrendous with no street lighting, and no side walks (not even a standard highway road shoulder), and kids traveling in the right lane of traffic in the dark at all points in between. Yet we can put street lighting in on the unused Boundary Road connector and Willow Cale that would more than cover the Hart which serves 20,000 people. Another spot that could use better street lighting is North Nechako, and Foothills… what is up with the powers that be?
Also one of the greatest view points in PG is the cut banks surrounding the city. Why can’t we improve the access to these view points and possibly provide some lighting on them during the games ringing the city. The University Way cut bank would be a great spot for a 2015 Games lighted sign, even out of plywood like the Hollywood sign is made from… or the Nechako and Fraser cut banks possibly with advertising signage. Why not show some pride in our city and what it has that is unique to offer visitors from across the country?
Here’s a tip for GettingItRight…u want to make that kind of money how about you apply for one of the jobs??! Oh right, you need extansive aducation, extensive experience and years of working in the field. Don’t have it?? Sucks to be you I guess. Poor planning on your part.
So sick of people who criticize others who have busted their butts to get where they are and cause they get paid well it’s a crime.
Oh..and I encourage you to do some research. A great number of the CWG staff are from PG.
and lots arent or wont be when its done, RC that will be ‘extansive aducation’ on one of many things that went wrong. This is our Montreal, our Big-O.
