Police Activity Near School – Proactive
Prince George, B.C. – Lots of police presence around Malaspina Elementary School this afternoon, but consider it a pro-active exercise.
Officers were advising drivers to slow down in school zones, and to pay attention to the rules of the road when it comes to stopping for a school bus.
“No tickets handed out” says Corporal Craig Douglass, Media Liaison Officer with the Prince George detachment “But there were a handful of warnings issued.”
Corporal Douglass says officers wanted to be seen so people would slow down and get the message about reducing their speed in school zones.
Yesterday, the RCMP in Prince George issued an advisory reminding drivers they must stop when behind or approaching a school bus when the has it’s red lights flashing. They say there have been numerous incidents of drivers ignoring that rule, which could have fatal consequences for young people who are running to catch the bus, or running across the street having just gotten off the bus at the end of their school day.

Only at the one school?
Odd if it was. And very disconcerting that they was such a large police presence in an area that is rather off the beaten path with respect to response time and access to main thoroughfares. (Yes, I know there other patrol cars out in other areas.)
Just a thought.
1fastm3,
It was a good choice, the people passing that school are ridiculous with the way they drive. Try doing the 30 KMH in that school zone and you will see people pass you doing double that. If my kids were still attending that school I would lobby the city to install speed bumps every 100 feet or so.
It wasn’t as bad as it is now but then they built 2 new subs that use Malispina to get anywhere they may have to go.
Malaspina is a bloody race track. It’s about time they start ticketing the racers.
Well this isn’t a Harper approved RCMP spying activity, but I certainly do support what they are doing here.
teach parents how to park no room by crosswalk sign because they want to get as close as they can only one lane by crosswalk any tickets there
Like many schools, Malaspina is located in a residential neighbourhood, and, it is also located just a few blocks from a city park. The entire length from that park until past the school should be a 30k speed limit. Unfortunately, few drivers pay attention to the 30k park speed limit. Most breaking that limit are from the two new subdivisions. I have personally witnessed women with a van full of children, on her cell phone, going at least 50k past the park.
More police monitoring is very welcome.
Wonderful! Happy to see it. A lot of drivers won’t learn except by the hard way and I hope that doesn’t involve hurting any children.
WTF…I was after em for years and finally said phucket..I came to the conclusion they are braindead.
that 3 must look like a 9 to some!!
All you helicopter parents need to teach your kids to stay off the streets unless they want to get run over. And if a van full of kids is being driven faster than the speed limit by one of the parents it just goes to show that speed limits are way too low.
