TSB Explains CN Collision Near Vanderhoof
Prince George, B.C. – The federal Transportation Safety Board says there will be no full-scale investigation into Saturday’s collision between two trains on the CN line between Prince George and Prince Rupert.
The collision involving two westbound trains occurred around one o’clock Saturday afternoon. One train struck the tail end of the other approximately eight kilometers west of Vanderhoof. As a result one locomotive and eight intermodal cars left the tracks, although they did remain upright. The line was re-opened to traffic early Sunday afternoon.
TSB Media Relations Specialist Julie Leroux in Gatineau, Quebec says the accident was reported to the board by CN Rail “and for us it’s a Class 5, which means we’re not going to do a full investigation and we’re not going to publish a final report on this.” Asked what a Class 5 means, Leroux says “it’s in our database and we have an investigation summary but it’s as far as we go.”
The investigation summary finds that one train, proceeding under a restricting signal indication, reported striking the tail end of the other train which was stopped, resulting in the derailment of the lead locomotive, one car and damage to safety equipment of another car on the train that hit the other, and derailment of three cars on the struck train. The summary indicates there were no injuries, no dangerous goods involved, and the matter is in the hands of CN officials.

“TSB Explains CN Collision”
When are they going to explain the collision? We already knew the train was rear ended by another train. Explaining why would be the correct explanation.
We will be explaining the collision BY not investigating further, and then not saying anything about it.. What a joke.. So don’t say how bad CN is so they can still try to get crude, etc sent to the coast by rail.
How does one do an “investigation summary” without doing an investigation? :)
The crew of the second train was proceeding under a restricted signal. That means Stopping within one half the range of vision. therefore it was the train crew that broke the rules. CN will have most likely pulled them from service.
axman…their “INVESTIGATION SUMMARY” is always the same…no one hurt, no one dead, no environmental damage…so government get lost…
and we are supposed to embrace CN moving crude oil to the coast….
Enjoy
