BC Tory Leadership Candidate Attacks Clark Vision

Wednesday, February 12, 2014 @ 8:10 AM

Prince George, B.C. – A candidate for the leadership of the BC Conservative Party is attacking the Liberal throne speech as long on hypocrisy and short or vision.

Dan Brooks of Vanderhoof  says “Christy Clark says she is committed to fiscal responsibility yet the B.C. Liberals have almost doubled provincial debt from $33 billion in 2001 to $62.7 billion this year, with over $17 billion since 2011 when Premier Clark took office.”  Brooks slams Clark for claiming recent labour agreements control spending when “the Liberals just cost the taxpayer $2 million when they lost a lawsuit where the judge slammed them for a strategy that was meant to put such pressure on a union that it would provoke a strike.  These tactics have wasted taxpayer money and created greater labour uncertainty than ever before.

Brooks also attacks the premier claims that economic development has traditionally been led by small communities in the resource sector.  He says, in fact, “under the B.C. Liberals this economic development is in reverse; rural BC has lost 58,000 people in the last 15 years and this year two lumber mills will be closing in Quesnel and Houston.”

Brooks also says “Premier Clark plans to eliminate the provincial debt, not from good fiscal management but from winning the LNG lottery.  She claims an environmental accolade by helping China “switch” to LNG, but China is not switching from coal to clean LNG, it will continue to burn coal and will add LNG as its demand for energy increases.”

Brooks says “the only vision they (Liberals) have of the future is to perpetuate themselves in power.”

Comments

Well, they aren’t called Liberals for nothing.
Brooks’ final comment is probably more true than most might be willing to admit –
“the only vision they (Liberals) have of the future is to perpetuate themselves in power.”

Ummm, that’s the vision of every political party. If it wasn’t, they wouldn’t seek office. Maybe Brooks should prove he isn’t the same by not running?

Talk about a bunch of nonsense!

The Conservatives were better fiscally when they were in power… Wait… their budget shortfall was 4.8 million for 1930, while the average income for people in BC was around the $500 mark at that time. The budget shortfall was only 7.1 million the next year, and slowed to a deficit of only 2.8 million the following year until they left power under a deficit of an additional 400,000.

Thankfully noone lost their jobs during the Conservative reign… Oh wait again… the unemployment went from 2% to 28% in those 4 years.

They should do better this time around, they have had eighty years to think about it, I mean sawmills have never closed in the past have they?

I thought the federal govt. already apologized to the Chinese for historical wrongs. Why is Christy Clark’s liberals including this in this budget….so BC taxpayers have to pay oyt more money so Clark can garner votes for the future??? Also, it appears the Clark govt is calling the Supreme Court Judge in Teacher’s Court case a liar. Time for an honest, business friendly, opposition to boot Clark out in next election…..or recall her.

ohhh heyyy wait a minute you guys….where’s opinionated ???

62.7 billion that’s right billion in debt with less than a year to go before lng is our saviour and we are debt free…………….remember christies promise, what a bunch of bull.hit the way this stunned …. is headed we will never recover looks good on all you liberal ding dongs who think this political party is utopia may your kids and grandkids inherit this mess!!!!!

Dan Brooks makes some good points, but that will never be enough to get his Conservatives out of the BC Liberal’s bed!

Oh my…the “dippers” are really out in force on this one… While I would never vote for the Provincial Conservatives, some of the things they have to say are miles ahead of what the NDP ever has to say :)
