Men Timberwolves Win One in Calgary

Calgary, AB – The Mount Royal Cougars lost to the UNBC Timberwolves 76-54. Charles Barton and Billy Cheng led the way for UNBC with 18 and 16 points respectively. James Lefebvre was the standout player for Mount Royal with 21 points.

The first quarter was very back and forth with a lot of missed shots early on. Mount Royal was the first team to score, nearly three minutes into the quarter. From there the scoring was very back and forth, but Mount Royal’s hard play gave them a two-point edge at the end of the quarter.

This lead was quickly erased by a three-pointer by Jibreel Stevens. The play continued to go back and forth, and both teams exchanged the lead throughout the quarter. After Mount Royal tied it up with about two and a half minutes left, UNBC started their really strong play.

UNBC carried this strong play into the second half and went 13 points unanswered giving them a 39-26 lead. From there both teams again exchanged baskets, but Mount Royal could not make any sizeable gains on the UNBC lead.

Going into the fourth quarter, the Timberwolves had a 51-42 lead. Mount Royal began to lose steam, and as the quarter went on, missed chances were beginning to add up. UNBC kept building on their lead and the Cougars were having trouble responding. UNBC continued to dominate the second half and finished the game with a 22 point lead.

Mount Royal now holds a record of (8-13). The Timberwolves are now (5-16).

Tomorrow night on Kenyon Court will be the final game of the season for both teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
