Finance Minister Re-Soles Shoes
Monday, February 17, 2014 @ 3:09 PM
Prince George,B.C.-Provincial Finance Minister Mike DeJong is giving subtle hints about the budget he will deliver tomorrow. Traditionally, a great deal can be told about the spending plan by the type of shoes the Minister chooses for the event. For tomorrow, DeJong had a favourite pair, re-soled, meaning, the budget likely won't hold anything new, and will stay the course of past budgets. DeJong also hints the shoes are now "well balanced"

So it’s easy, big business get all the breaks, the middle class get gouged with a cut back in services, the retired costs keep going up, and we are still tops in child poverty..
So with the BC logo at the end I take it this more taxpayers money spent on another liberal publicity stunt?
It said in the National Post that the government won’t hand out dough for paving roads only for small towns such as ours. Road improvements obviously don’t qualify as infrastructure. We need to ‘dig up” that kinda dough elsewhere. I know! Raise my taxes again. That’ll work!
Wonder if the budget includes more outragous pay and benefit increases for mla’s???? They certainly have feathered their nests and doubled their pay and pension benefits.
NDP lost get over it
Thanks for the update stone kicker…lol
He’s a Liberal… he has no soul.
Not sure why some people want to continue fighting the last election long after it’s over.
I wonder how many millions in carbon taxes they have collected from our inflated fuel prices?
Meh, Big Business and Corporations have taken over our Federal and Provincial governments. Eagleone is right, it’s just a matter of time when “people” will say enough is enough!
Have you got anything else besides the same one-note rhetoric, People#1?
Not to worry JB the people of BC will have their say again in a couple of years and elect Ms. Clark to a second term. The last two leaders of the dippers had about as much personality as Christy’s toe nail clippings and if the next one fits that mold she will increase her majority.

“Do you even have a clue what you are talking about, People#1? Wait, I already know the answer.”

“Clue us clueless people in “JohnnyBelt”
Never got back to us on that subject JB. However, such is the predicament when one is incapable of original thought. The only thing they can do is respond to other’s comments with meaningless one line banter.
haha thats funny. JohnnyBelt talking about someone’s one-note rhetoric. Thats really funny
as opposed to posting childish cartoons as the only response to having one’s butt handed to them on many occasions.
Maybe when People#1 gets a job and is a contributing member of society, he’ll feel different.
@unlisted: Funny how all these new ID’s keep popping out of the woodwork. Hmm…
People#1: “Never got back to us on that subject JB. However, such is the predicament when one is incapable of original thought.”
LOL. I’ll clue you in once you agree to pay the bet you lost with gus, how about that?
“Not sure why some people want to continue fighting the last election long after it’s over.”
Are you new to this planet JB? Elections are never over.
Peeps giving insight into “original thought”,wow, that’s rich.
Gotta add my two cents worth:
Peeps says “Meh, Big Business and Corporations have taken over our Federal and Provincial governments. Eagleone is right, it’s just a matter of time when “people” will say enough is enough!”
Peeps, what about how big labour and their constant demands have stuck it to ordinary taxpayers? And what about NDP and Liberal governments caving in to the union demands in order to buy the union vote?
Eagleone is incorrect in his statement that it’s just a matter of time when “people” will say enough is enough! Haven’t you heard?? The average taxpayer is saying enough, enough of the constant wage increases to public sector workers, enough to a never ending growth in the size of our public sector, enough of big labour and it’s constant whining! Governments are finally starting to listen and they are starting to respond because “we” have had enough!!
The only thing “obscene” here is the massive amounts of money our Federal and Provincial governments spend on subsidizing the OIL & Gas Industry! In 2005 those subsidies amounted to BILLIONS of dollars! Imagine that, giving our tax dollars to an industry that is killing our planet!
From The Pembina Institute Report titled; Government Spending on Canada’s Oil and Gas Industry, January 31, 2005 ~
“Government expenditure on the oil and gas sector including tax, program and direct expenditure totalled $1,085 million (2000$) in 1996 and $1,446 million (2000$) in 2002. The increase in expenditure over this time period was 33%. Total expenditure from 1996 to 2002, inclusive, was equal to $8,324 million (2000$). The vast majority of the expenditure is associated with tax initiatives and in particular the Canadian Development Expense, the Canadian Exploration Expense, the Resource Allowance and the Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance for oil sands. Other research has demonstrated relatively low taxation levels for the oil and gas sector,3 high tax concessions for oil sands4 and relatively high profits of oil and gas companies.5 In addition, previous research comparing the amount of revenue collected from oil and gas developments in Canada with that collected in Alaska and Norway revealed that, relative to these international benchmarks, companies extracting Canadaâs oil and gas, most of which belongs to the public, are receiving an implicit subsidy in the form of excessive profits that governments are failing to capture through taxes, royalties and other revenue generating policy options.6 “
Wow, so what they are saying is that because of these massive subsidies, with our tax dollars, the oil and gas companies are making excessive profits that our government is not even taxing! WTF?!
Yeah, the time is coming when the good “people” of this province and country will be saying; ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!
ENOUGH PEEPS, ENOUGH!!
Balanced is good. Reminds me that I should buy me new shoes. Tired of sore feet. Walk to much. Saves on gas though!
Same old, same old. The ‘left’ repeats endlessly, “The poor are poor because the rich are rich.” Which, in this country, is absolute nonsense, and easily provable as such. But does the ‘right’ do that? No way. Instead it sets the stage for its own demise when it agrees with the ‘left’, and then says, “Who cares?” Oh well, keep it up. Either way, you truly will get the government you deserve.
When peeps has nowhere to go, he always goes back to the same old song and dance.
Pylot: “Are you new to this planet JB? Elections are never over”
Uh, the last one is. Newsflash: The Liberals won. By quite a bit. Too bad some have yet to accept that.
I think it’s time for Peeps to come clean and tell us how many different posting ID’s he has on this site.
Well let’s see if Clark’s job “plan” works for Canadians in BC or if it works for temporary foreign workers. Average salary in BC is 36,000.00 / year. Average salary in Alberta is 76,000/year. This is salary per worker average.
JB, are you being deliberately thick just to be annoying? As soon as ballots have been counted, winner or loser, the war begins again, for all parties, planning for the next writ to be dropped. Elections are never over simply because your Liberal friends picked up their “Elect Me” signs of your lawn.
Sore loser.
JB can’t we all get along? You’re always BEING a jerk. Don’t you have someone to love you?
Dejong is great politician. Probably works harder than you ever do. Maybe you need a damn hug! Or a bloody kick.
@commoner: It seems that it’s alright when others take shots at me and my opinions, but when I give it back then I’m labelled ‘a jerk’. Double standard.
Also @commoner: And where did I say anything about Dejong? You might have me confused with someone else.
