Pineview General Store takes on The Salmons in the Snowfrolics' Snowpitch Tournament  250News photo

Prince George, BC – For many, there is nothing like a sunny day to make them want to head to the park for a game of baseball…

Yesterday provided the sunshine, and the ball diamonds at Malcolm McLeod Memorial Recreation Park in Pineview provided the scene for a snowball game.

Pineview's annual Snowfrolics winter festival kicked off with a snowpitch tournament that continues today.

The ball is barely visible, although a neon shade of pink, in the photo at right as 'The Salmons' stepped up to bat against Team Pineview General Store.

Although there were trails in the snow 'marking' the diamond, it didn't stop the players from getting a bootful, as they made their way around the bases.

Snowpitch organizer Terry Hommy has been involved in the winter festival for years.  "The idea is just to get the community together and have some fun because winter is so cold and miserable at times that you want to stay indoors, so this gets everybody out and having fun."

Snowfrolics continues on Wednesday with a cribbage tournament at the Pineview Hall, bingo goes Thursday night, and next weekend features snow volleyball, logger sports, an outhouse race,  pancake breakfast and games for the kids.
