Coal Train Derailment Closes CN Line North Of PG
– 250News Exclusive –
Prince George, BC – A train derailment has closed CN Rail's mainline between Prince George and Tumbler Ridge…
"Early indications are that there are 24 loaded coal cars that have derailed," says CN's Regional Manager of Public and Government Affairs, Lindsay Fedchyshyn. "There were no injuries and there are no dangerous goods involved."
Fedchyshyn says the train was bound for Prince George when the cars left the tracks in a remote area, approximately 132-kilometres west of Tumbler Ridge at 9pm last night.
She says crews are on-site, working to clear the track. The CN spokesperson says it's too early to tell what may have caused the derailment. "Our main focus right now is really responding to the site – clearing the track, getting it back in service, and, of course, there will be an exhaustive investigation."

These CN derailments are happening with increased frequency, when was the last one west of Vanderhoof, 4 weeks ago?
It’s just a matter of time before something similar to Lac Megantic happens up here.
Now that CN is under the microscope they have to report everything,, it’s about time.
Oh I am sure they are still not reporting everything.
I wonder how many cars were behind the engine? When you have to wait for trains to pass you’ll notice they are getting longer all the time.
CN continues to show it is incapable of keeping the train on the track…
how long before the government finally decides to investigate?
will it take someone getting killed or environmental damage….
oh what am I thinking…. Clark being allowed to take her kids to the bar is more important…
“there will be an exhaustive investigation.”, the likeihood of it ever reaching the public though, is very low.
Hmmmm, can hardly wait until they start shipping oil by rail to Kitimat. Pipeline is still the best way.
Accidents will happen. Most are preventable, Some is just bad luck.
Lol, its hilarious when the peanut gallery gets going.
CN may want to check their track maintenance logs for that line. The last time I was along it, there were loose/missing spikes everywhere.
The track follows many rivers, wonder if any ended up in the drink?
CN sucks. I always thought it would be fun if the CN Zamboni at CN Centre would crash and catch fire too. It would be very entertaining.
To Summit , you have a sick mind when you make such a terrible comment. It would be fun to watch the Zamboni crash, give me a break , go see your doctor
Find me you posted with the peanut gallery?
There are various procedures to follow in the reporting of train accidents. These procedures have been in place for longer than most people on this site have been alive.
Train accidents happen all the time, that’s the nature of the beast. They will continue to happen. The key is to ensure that all safety precautions are in place to keep accidents to a minimum.
The reason it seems like there are more accidents is because of the news coverage etc; At one time a train derailment was not considered news.
findme, is that the best you can do? you have no thoughts of your own so
you resort to personal attacks? ? ? ?….
Exclusive? Hmm. I do recall HQ has also posted something from this incident. All the media has to do is contact CN once this has been posted.
Bcracer, you underestimate me if you think that was a personal attack. I can do so much better. But youll have to wait until I get back from the bar with Clark and her kids.
If I owned a coal furnace I would be on site helping them clean up. I’d even bring my own sacks.
I feel for the crew at this time, There is apparently a ton of snow and it is very cold there, for this to happen during these conditions must wreak havoc on the cleanup and all the people there, being so remote.
I agree willyj
JIM 13135….they can pull more cars because of:
A. added horsepower (more locos, with less
HP pulling)
B. better horsepower (less locos pulling but
with more HP)
The locomotive industry is advancing well.
They’re working on natural gas powered locomotives. They could get blowed up real good under the right circumstances.
Harb….word is blown…not blowed. And I still can’t see where you are going with this comment.
“blowed up real good”
SCTV, Joe Flaherty and John Candy. We’re getting old Harb.
I know. Glad I’m old.
Youtube. “SCTV blowed up real good”. Ah, the memories. Right, mf?

Yeah, isn’t it funny how some see train derailments as part of regular business, but if a pipeline spills a drop somewhere, watch out! Even Lac Magantic seems to be yesterday’s news.
JB states; “Even Lac Megantic seems to be yesterday’s news”
Maybe not so much for the families of the more than 40 people who died there! You are a really piece of work aren’t you “Just Johnny”!
