RCMP Puts Pressure On Chronic Offenders
Prince George, BC – Prince George RCMP say a new crime reduction initiative targeting chronic offenders and problematic properties in the city has met much success…
In presenting his annual report to city councillors on Monday evening, Superintendent Eric Stubbs credited Inspector Brad Anderson with launching the initiative. (l Insp. Anderson, r Supt Stubbs photo courtesy CPG webcam)
"So he identified: a prolific offender – generally, someone who's quite violent, doing a lot of property theft; a chronic offender – perhaps, somebody that's just passed out all over the community; or a problematic property – and you've seen these, some of them have been in the news, the Homeland Inn was one, we spent a lot of time on Cuddie Crescent."
Over the course of 2013, nine prolific offenders, six chronic offenders and 9 properties were identified and targeted. Superintendent Stubbs said the RCMP's General Duty and Traffic members, along with external partners like the City's Bylaw Services, Northern Health and the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch applied sustained pressure to those targets.
"It's not charging our way out of the problem every time, but it is putting pressure on these people to change behaviour," the Officer in Charge of the Prince George Detachment told councillors. "And that's really what the goal is."
Superintendent Stubbs says the Detachment's full time Crime Reduction Team had a very productive year – targeting and jailing 38 prolific offenders. As part of their efforts, 28 search warrants were executed, resulting in the recover of stolen property, drugs, and firearms.

Maybe if they put them in jail they wouldn’t be prolific offenders. Or at least make sure that the witnesses survive long enough to make it to court.
Lets go one step further and put them in hard labour camps.
snow clearing, parks and city clean ups, clean up along the highways. don’t just stick them in the “Hilton on the hill” where the tax payer gets nothing back for their money.
just an old time thought.
have a great day
maybe do like Joe Arpaio sheriff of Maricopa county does work them hard and pay is .28 cents an hr.and made to wear pink uniforms http://www.cellutiongroup.com/archives/234
A few years back the police where just as bad as the criminals at organized crime in pg. Glad to see the rcmp focus is finally going in the right direction.
While I agree with all of these earlier comments, there are a couple of teeny tiny problems with these suggestions.
First of all, the little darlings in jail have more rights than you and I and someone bleeding heart would complain that to put them in jail or to put them to work would violate their rights. After all, it’s not their fault that they committed crimes in the first place. It’ somebody else’s fault!
Secondly, if you put the little darlings in jail and then you put them to work snow clearing, cleaning parks, cities or highways, the labour unions would scream bloody murder because this is “Union” work and would result in the loss of overpaid Union jobs!
Finally, if you put the little darlings in jail and kept them there, you would shut down the revolving door that exists in our Courts and this would result in a loss of income to all involved in that process. Lawyers wouldn’t stand for a decline in their never ending income from the never ending circus that is our justice system!
Do RCMP make bonuses on arrests?? Seems to me that unless officers stand to gain financially by arresting the same people over and over, you would think they would be banding together to pressure the government and Dept of Justice to stop giving out such lax penalties. Most people become cops to do good and it must so frustrating to those good officers to continuously arrest the same people. There is no reason why people who have been arrested 40+ times should be on the streets. Same with seeing a crime in the paper and the suspect “was known to police”.
How true Hart Guy
Moose: “Do RCMP make bonuses on arrests?? Seems to me that unless officers stand to gain financially by arresting the same people over and over”
You have got to be kidding. It has to be incredibly frustrating for the RCMP to arrest the same offenders over and over again. The majority of crime is committed by a small number of people. If those people were kept off the streets, crime rates would plummet.
the moose: That’s exactly what kept me from joining the RCMP. All the work they do in investigating a crime, hours and hours of it, can be all for naught for some little technicality totally unrelated. And then the way defence attorneys can put insane questions to them over tiny or imaginary details of their investigations, simply removes the question of guilt or innocence and make the court system a circus. Common sense and JUSTICE are thrown right out the window.
Personally I believe there should be two jail systems.
System one – the system we have now where rehabilitation is the goal. This is where you go when we have reasonable hope we can turn you around. You made a dumb mistake, substance abuse, what have you.
System two – concrete block buildings. No contact between guards and inmates. No play time. No fun at all. You get your 8×10 concrete windowless room all to yourself, your TV across the hall where you can’t wreck it basic cable included because we don’t want to be cruel, and you never leave that cell. Food is brought to you. It’s a cheap jail to build, it’s a hard jail to escape, and it’s much like Alcatraz use to be. You want to be a hardass, that’s where you go, and you go for a long time, because it’s cheaper to keep you there, than have you wandering the streets wreaking havoc.
Right now, there is just no jail space to deal with property crime offenders.
Of course, another option would be to just legalize drugs – but that’s too simplistic.
Let’s just give them a fair trial, then we’ll hang ’em.
Hart Guy and the rest of the commenters are right but maybe it is a time for change.
They choose a life of crime, it wasn’t “forced upon them” and they violate our rights so therefore they got no rights, simple.
If the unions had people doing the clean up jobs there wouldn’t be a need for it ti be done, but that isn’t so. Simple
Finally don’t put them in facilities like the one up the hill, it is way too comfortable. Put them in work camps with just the basics, they might not want to come back so soon. simple
There will always be crime so the law society will always be employed
Just some thoughts, cheers.
Haha, reading the comments on this site, is just as entertaining as watching ‘Deliverance.’
There should be a required course in the Outside World, for all male PG residents.
Btw ‘Handycap’ (go figure) do you have issues with pink? Something you want to talk about?
The system we have in place is sufficient to cover all aspects of crime. The problem is in the application of the system.
One major problem is that the Government does not want to jail all criminals because of the high cost. So, they get suspended sentences, etc; which suits the criminals just fine, and they carry on committing crimes. If every once in a while they end up in jail, so be it, that’s the price you pay for being a criminal, however its a small price in this day and age.
We need these longer sentences, and some sort of rehabilitation program with a view of turning some of these people around, however people have been talking about this for over 50 years and we have not made any progress.
The income of our Judges, prosecutors, police, etc; depend on criminals. Eliminate the criminal element, and you would have significant lay offs.
Putting pressure on criminals in Surrey, Williams Lake, and Prince George, at best moves these criminals to other areas, and doesn’t really solve the problem.
Statistics don’t solve problems either.
Yup. By some of these posts I would say a lot of people were brought up under the belief that Dr. Spock was correct ha ha, hence a lot of our problems.
Just an opinion……..and we all got one, right.
The problem isn’t the RCMP. It’s the activist judges we are stuck with. The government can pass all the laws they want (mandatory sentencing e.g.)and some judge will decide that it’s against some criminals’ charter of rights and strike down the law. Thanks to Pierre Trudeau.

Oh my, no idea what happened there. That was obviously only meant to post once!
Did you mean being in deliverance….. When you’re still logged in and refresh your page it will resend your post
Jovan nailed it. Its a lucrative job for the judges. Folks go sit in on some court cases, you will leave shaking your head in disbelief.
I agree with Hart guy..These criminals should be sent back from were they came from, “Vancouver”. I have heard that every time there is an event down that way Vancouver sends them on a one way vacation to Prince George. Any truth to this?
This doesn’t apply to every commenter on here, but it does apply to some. Got to love the classics;

Pure garbage. Where do you come up with this stuff?
Dragonmaster, you don’t think that this would happen? what Union did you say that you belong to??
Just imagine what would happen if municipal job were on the line because the City decided to use chain gangs to mow and maintain our City parks!
I still see the cons (once or twice a year) cleaning the garbage out of the ditches on Foothills Blvd. The cons used to shovel the walkways off the bridges in the winter but I have not seen this for years now.
Hart guy what would you say if your job was on the line?
Actually seamut, myself and many of my good friends lost our jobs many years ago due to a very large international corporate restructuring. We all moved on to other jobs and have all survived. Nobody shed any tears for us, so forgive me if I don’t shed any tears for a union member losing a job!! Ok, maybe just one tear! Boo hoo! There, I’m over it already!!
