Infrastructure $ Available For Oil And Gas Developers

Wednesday, February 26, 2014 @ 3:50 AM

Prince George, BC – The provincial government has opened the application process for oil and gas developers looking for infrastructure funding…

Since 2004, $830-million dollars has been awarded under the Infrastructure Royalty Credit Program for projects aimed at improving access to promising resource areas, resulting in more than 200 new or upgraded all-season roads and pipeline projects.  According to Ministry of Natural Gas Development officials, the projects represent a total capital investment of more than $1.9-billion dollars without direct cost to the government.

The program requires the oil and gas companies to fund the entire cost of an approved infrastructure project and then, once it's complete, they're eligible to re-coup up to 50-percent of the project's cost.

The latest installment of the IRCP will make $120-million dollars available to developers.  Information on Requests for Application can be found here.  Applicants have until April 16th to apply.

“According to Ministry of Natural Gas Development officials, the projects represent a total capital investment of more than $1.9-billion dollars without direct cost to the government.” .. the operative words here are “direct cost” because according to their own words half of that is given back to the corporations, so in reality it has cost the gov’t (taxpayers actually) only 1 billion dollars to give these corporations access to our resources. Who makes the money off of the timber that is logged during the making of these roads and pipelines? If gas company A has to build 20 km of road to where they are going to drill, do they get the revenue from the wood or is the right of way put out to tender to local contractors?

At least we aren’t fixing the child poverty .. Good thing we are giving oil and gas such huge breaks and incentives

“Who makes the money off of the timber that is logged during the making of these roads and pipelines? “

Most of the time there is no revenue because the wood (what little there is) is simply piled up and burnt. It’s usually far too expensive to truck it out to the nearest mill.

P Val what business does not get incentives in one form or another?

Like the oil. And gas companies, who show profits in the billions don’t really need incentives

Profits in the billions, so you are saying they are the only ones with profits like that. What would be your cutoff? Do you know what their operating cost is related to budget? Where do you your quality of life came from? If you removed every vestage of fossil fuels from your life where would you be in life?

Right, if we don’t give them massive tax breaks they will simply leave the oil and gas in the ground…..not. I’m sure they can carry themselves, don’t you?
