Prince George, B.C.- The Mobile Medical Unit will be rolling into Prince George tomorrow morning for a test run.
The unit, is heading back to its home base in Delta, from a four month deployment in Kitimat where it had been used as a support service while the Kitimat hospital was undergoing renovations.
Tomorrow, this 12 bed mini hospital will be setting up in the parking lot of the Emergency department at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. as a test run for the Canada Winter Games. The test is to see that all the support and space requirements needed by the MMU can be met before it arrives for the Games.
The $5 million dollar facility has all the equipment necessary to provide everything from x-rays to ultra-sounds, surgery to ICU .
It arrives in two trailers, one to carry all of the equipment and supplies, the other to be “the mini hospital”. There is also a “triage tent” where patients can be assessed for order of priority in treatment.
The test set up could mean some parking issues around the emergency department of the UHNBC tomorrow morning, but Northern Health spokesman, Jonathon Dyck says access to the Emergency Department will not be impacted, ambulances will still be able to arrive and leave.
The set up is to start first thing in the morning.
