Hilarious

Canada has a long way to go before we have a Military that demands respect.

We have a small population (38 Million) and a huge land mass, and coastline to look after, so its hard be keep our Military up to acceptable standards.

Add to this the ineptness of various Federal Governments over the years and this is the result.

We have had a number of embarrassments over the years, and in my opinion its time to solve some of these problems.

Well Pal why does Canada spend our tax dollars on the military in the first place. We will never become a world military power. We are jus t dreaming.

The whole story is that we have to feed the armament manufacturers. Pure and simple.

Why did we ever quit being Peace Keepers? It is a roll we played well.
Cheers

Who wants to serve in Canadas armed forces these days? Just look at how our govt treats our Vets.

We spend money on the military to give the impression that we are a free and democratic country. Fact of the matter is, we are nothing more than a poor cousin of the good old USA, and because they protect us, we can shirk our responsibilities, and cut funding to the military.

Canada has always had a problem with the military from the first world war forward. First under the British rule, and then under the US umbrella.

We need a first rate military to protect our borders, and our off shore assets. Without a presence in these area’s over time we will be suckered by the big boys, like Russia, China, and the USA.

Time to tighten the belt buckle and spend some time upgrading the military.

PS. Canada’s military to-day, is a reflection of Canadians as a whole, after all they are (our) military.

So just what is the point of that cartoon? Seems to come from some ignorant left wing idiot. Oh speaking of the left how come they are so vicious and vile?

Any how we have injured on that ship who signed a blank cheque for service to their country, more than most of the posters on this site would ever do.

People think that incident is a joke out of pure ignorance. In 68 9 sailors died in an engine room fire ball on the HMCS Kootenay, was that a joke?

Hey retired just where did Canada ever want to become a world military power, what an ignorant comment. Want to see ignorance go look in a mirror. Hey we still have so called peace keepers. Do you have any idea how many died keeping the peace? I think not, go look in the mirror again.

I recommend sending the second hand British submarines which Canada bought a few years ago! Trouble is they may have to be towed as well!

If you really want to scare them . Threaten to fly a sea king helicopter over their heads .

We will never have a military that could compete or worry China, Russia, or U.S.

We are known as a peace loving country and that is one of the reasons I am a proud Canadian…we have enough police keepers out there spending huge amounts of money on issues that are non of their business.

More money on military means higher taxes – sorry you don’t have my vote.

Its a tough situation in the Crimea. The last time we went to war there was to establish BC as a sovereign colony of Britain. Horrendous loses on both sides in the Russian underbelly, but it diverted their forces from the Pacific and forced them to sue for peace by selling Alaska to the Americans for a buffer zone that ultimately secured British colonial assets in what now is the Yukon and BC.

If we go back there with any kind of military intent, with boats in tow or not, it won’t be a laughing matter and could easily spiral into a nuclear war. The facts are that no matter what we say or do Russia will not let Crimea go for geo-strategic military reasons, and the best we can hope for is some kind of shared sovereignty over the area with the Ukrainians as partners for peace.

Constructive politicians will not treat us as stupid unthinking minions (eg comparing Putin to Hitler WW2, or calling Putin delusional), rather constructive politicians will look for a solution that respects Ukrainian sovereignty over the rest of the Ukraine and find a way for Ukrainians to be partners with the west and Europe, as well as a partner of Russia that the Russians can trust and respect given the Russian sensitivities for their own security and large majority presence of nationals… a semi autonomous region. The actions of the Ukrainian soldiers in Crimea is a good start.

IMO Harper and Biard are a bunch of chicken hawks throwing fuel on the fire and pushing confrontation that could backfire badly for Canada in a year when we are suppose to be concluding mutual agreements through the UN on the Arctic boundaries of our own nation.

IMO the red line is when Russia crosses into Eastern Ukraine and or uses actual force of violence on local populations. At that point we need to be prepared for war, but keep it close to our chests and not trumpet our intentions for the purpose of belligerence. War for Canada would be protecting Canada from the fall out of war in Europe. If Russian forces are to be confronted on the battle field it will not be in the Ukraine, because that is where their forces have superior tactical advantage, but rather more like the Crimean war of the 19th century it will be in another arena to divide their forces with huge risk of a nuclear genie coming out of the bottle… at which point serious consideration would have to be given to a first strike and our world would never be the same.

Canada’s focus should be to ensure Ukraine has fair and open elections in all regions of the Ukraine and that financial help comes with conditions being met regarding the respect for all nationalities and all sides, so as to not inflame Russian intentions.

Canada’s military should be about a formidable defensive posture and not an offensive F35 type of waste. IMHO.

45 Million South Koreans would disagree with the assertion that the Canadian can not compete with the Chinese. If not for Canada the Americans would have been run into the Yellow Sea and all of Korea would be in the Kim dynasty.

Its the nuclear weapons that are the issue when confronting those nations.

So eagleone old tecknology is adequate defense against new tecknology. How long did horse calvary last during the start of WW2?

Our NATO membership requires that we are able to contribute to NATO missions of peacekeeping. That’s all. We are not a first attack nation. If somebody would be foolish enough to attack us the other NATO nations are bound to come to help defend us against aggression! Britain, France, Germany, Italy……they all have super modern weapons of awesome power.

Our national budget would be unable to match the military arsenal of most if not any of those.

Ottawa collected enough tax money from us since the last wars to make sure we are not too far behind in every field. What did Ottawa do with all the taxes? Who knows.

The F-18 is far superior to the F-35 in almost every way, but most importantly in a real world dog fight it would eat up the F-35 like an easy slow moving toy. Facts are Canada’s air force with the FA-18 (fastest fighter jet on the planet) and the stand off weapons we have can handle anything our enemies have today in the air or on the surface.

Its not the big targets that count in modern war, but rather the infantry that matters most with surface to air, anti-tank, and mobile mesh communications that can make large areas no go zones for the big ticket items. Even America recognizes this in their latest white papers on war, and expect to see this as their focus in the years to come. We have allies that can help with the other less critical areas of offensive warfare.

Canada lags no one in technology for war. We are the second largest aircraft manufacture in the world and could easily take on a duel purpose role to build some of the best aircraft for war in the world if we really had the urgent need. Most of America’s big items like tanks and space technology have large Canadian components, and we have one of the largest automobile manufacturing bases in the world.

The Canadians in Korea beat a Chinese army that outnumbered us 500-1 with nothing more than single shot rifles and hand grenades. At Vimy Ridge the Germans had far superior weaponry (considered the most advanced fear Division in the world), and ditto for WW2 in all the tank battles Canadians won with inferior tanks. Its not always the technology that wins the day, but rather the tactics and the ability for an army to adjust to changing conditions (something totalitarian armies will always fail at)… as its always been for thousands of years.

Pointing to the tactics of the Poles as proof of the superiority of technology in war is about as faulty an argument as one can make considering the Polish political tactic of belligerence with the belief they could not be attacked because of paper promises from Britain, and then even worse tactics on the battle field with zero ability to adapt to changing conditions or to prepare for the possibility they would have to answer for their belligerence. One can not point to Poles as proof of anything other than how to create the conditions for failure politically (a lesson Harper fails to understand), and how to never go to war with a zombie army. IMHO

The Poles on the Western front fighting under Canadian command devastated the Germans in some of the fiercest battles of WW2 after D-day along the Belgian French boarder areas. It could be argued the battles they fought won the western front, and they did this with the same old technology they lost the war under Polish leadership in their own country.

Going back to the beginning, the cartoon, the comments, are all in very bad taste considering the seriousness to what’s going on in OUR world.

Taxi

Where did you hear that we were sending any military manned equipment to the eastern mediterranean? Last word I heard was that we were sending a few military “observers” to join up with other observers to keep an eye on what is going on. that certainly isn’t sending military equipment (ships)?

Seems the cartoonist while an idiot, is making up stories to try and support his sick cartoons.

Hey taxi, lighten up! The Canadian government is about to decide whether it is worth the money to repair the 50 year old Protecteur or just scrap it! Let’s face it, some of the oldest equipment should have been replaced years ago! Credit to those who kept it going, no slight intended, I am sure, by the cartoon!
