Remember to Spring Forward

Prince George, B.C.– With all the snow on the ground,  rain in the forecast, it's hard to believe spring is  officially  less than two weeks away.

What is certain, is that Daylight Savings time is  about  to arrive.  Tonight,  before heading to bed,  set  your clocks FORWARD  one hour, as we move to Daylight Savings Time.

The official time change takes effect at 2 a.m. Sunday morning,  so,  expect to lose an hour of "zzzz" time.

Sleep expert and University of BC Professor Emeritus Stanley Coren recently wrote an article for UBC News on the  impacts of time changes.

According to  Coren, research has shown there is a  5-7% increase in  workplace and traffic accidents  in the  three days following the switch to Daylight  Saving time.

In his article, he says you can prepare  for the time change  if you go to bed earlier  tonight "It is harder to sleep later because humans tend to awaken fairly automatically. Our eyelids are not opaque and most people are sensitive to increases in light, so we tend to wake up before our alarms go off because of that" writes Coren.

Already set mine ahead. That way I will get my butt in gear sooner rather than later!

Time to stop this madness.

Time to yak about this twice a year. To no avail. Great sport.

As Ben often says, stupid, stupid, stupid.

It seems that it’s difficult to find anyone nowadays who still thinks this is a good idea given all the research into accidents and sleep loss, etc.

Agree completely axman and JohnnyBelt. This is such a stupid custom.

Agree to whine about it twice a year? How about changing it? Aye. There’s the rub, eh?

BUT-Which one should we keep ?
That itself would be a debate.

Keep normal time so no spring ahead. To be honest it’s no big deal to me I’ve been doing it for long. It’s a sign that spring is almost here!

Move the damn thing half an hour and leave it there year round. Then everyone’s happy. Or no one.

Statistically, you’re more likely to have a heart attack on Monday. Maybe we should do away with Monday too.
