Social worker award for writing the most cheques?

or for consoling all those living at or below the poverty line?

Comments rooted in ignorance require a dose of reality. Not everyone is cut out to be a social worker, dealing with children traumatized by sexual abuse, violence and neglect. Battered women with faces so bashed in that even their close relatives could not recognize them. Then there is the screaming, and crying, the cursing and the threats;

“British Columbia’s independent children’s representative says threats of violence that include pointing guns and knives at social workers should not deter them from fulfilling their legal duties to protect vulnerable children from abuse.”

“In releasing her report into the May 2011 incident, Turpel-Lafond said Thursday social workers chose to stay away from the girl’s home and reserve because they feared threats of violence. She said social workers are legally bound to protect children even if that means employing a police escort to check on a young person’s well-being.”

Being a social worker for one month would probably have most of us walking away, shaking our heads, and looking for a new career!

Some stories in the USA of social workers killed and shot at because of their jobs.
