MaryAnne Arcand, One Hell Of A Woman
Prince George lost what I like to describe as a "hell of woman" yesterday, MaryAnne Arcand.
I stopped by to see MaryAnne at Hospice last week because I wanted to tell her exactly what I am writing .
She knew that her time was short as she joked with me, I was more taken aback about her condition than she was. That speaks volumes about the kind of woman she was.
For those that knew MaryAnne, trust me she was a hell of woman. Just as Jack Munro made his mark in the forest industry, MaryAnne made her mark in safety. She knew how to talk to the truckers, cause she spoke their language, and she knew how to talk to government. Although she may have had them, MaryAnne showed no political stripes, she wanted good for everyone and that crossed every boundary.
She loved the truckers and they loved her in return.
I was one of the people who asked MaryAnne to run for Council, she would have made a great fit. She knew how to sort the wheat from the chaff right up until the time of her passing. She was folks " one hell of a woman".
So today I hope you will join me in honouring a person who never sought much, just the satisfaction of getting the job done right, and because of that belief, she will be remembered long into the future in this city and this region.
MaryAnne you made your mark in this province , what a pity we have lost you so soon.

Prince George & BC have lost a great advocate for safety in the forest industry. Condolences to her family, friends & the great many people who will miss her tireless efforts to make working in a hazardous industry a safer place.
Yes I have never known a more passionate leader for work safety. She actually gave a damn about getting it done. We did loose a great hard working woman.
MaryAnne contributed so much to our community and to the world that it is hard to remember her without missing some crucial elements of her achievement.
She was a tireless mentor for young people across BC through her involvement with Rotary clubs. She was an inspiration both to entrepreneurs and environmental activists through her involvement with the Carbon Offset Aggregation Cooperative of BC, the first of its kind in the world, providing the framework for owners of heavy equipment and trucks to create, aggregate and sell carbon offsets.
She was one hell of a human being.
