A Walk in the Park With a Friend
Prince George, B.C. – Well we’re into spring now and that brings about some annual rites of passage in Prince George.
School students are on Spring Break, snow is vanishing from roadways replaced by road dust, and potholes are appearing in seemingly endless numbers. Friends are either going on or returning from trips to warmer climes. Dull, monotonous grey skies are being replaced by sunshine and people with smiles on their faces are spending more and more time outdoors. And daffodils are blooming (in Victoria they tell me).
We’re also seeing critters foraging around for food, wherever they can find it. Our photographer seemed very popular with the chickadees down at Cottonwood Island Park on Saturday. Another of the annual rites of passage when winter turns to spring.
Of course we’re not quite done with cool temperatures and snowfall. We’ll see daytime highs ranging from zero to plus 5 through the week. Overnight lows will dip anywhere from minus 2 to minus 15. Snow is mentioned on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

I wonder WHEN they will clean the street. A lot of them downtown and around do not have ANY ice or snow on them, but NO ONE is cleaning them yet. They usually start cleaning them as soon as ice is gone, so, what is the problem this year…..crazy!!!! You know, all winter they didn’t take the snow away and now this….all the dust is really bad for people with breathing problems…..come on MAYOR DO YOUR JOB OR GET OUT OF THERE!!!!!!
This post was meant for the “Two Thirds of Council Steps Up To The Plate on PAC” thread, but I see the comments on that thread are now closed.
I have written “Gus” off site to tell him that he should confine his comments on stories to a few comments, at most, on a particular item. I am posting this for the benefit of everyone who uses this site, to inform you that if you abuse the commenting section by trying to make it your soap box by commenting as many times as you please, I will begin cutting the privilege.
Commenting on 250 is a privilege, not a God Given right, as some would like to believe.

Ben. I do not think you handled this situation very well. I believe you should have either emailed Gus (off site) about the matter and told him to tone it down a little or made a general comment with a strong hint about the issue on your blog (without mentioning Gus’s name.
I guess it would have been ok if Gus made 3 or 4 comments on this thread and included everything he said in his 11 posts.
I see JohnnyBelt has made 7 posts on this thread. It seems to me that is more than “a few comments, at most”.
I believe you should rethink your earlier post on this matter, and use the words “keep it reasonable folks” instead of the “a few comments, at most, on a particular item”.
You have a good blog going. I do not think you should spoil it by using the words “a few comments, at most, on a particular item”. They are a hindrance to the discussion process.
I think Ben’s right, and I think the majority of posters on this site agree. Although I have found Gus informative, he does go on ad nauseum at times.
It’s not fair comparing Johnny Belt’s (JB)comments to gus’s comments. While JB may be a frequent poster, most of his comments are usually not more than 2 or 3 sentences long.
I think most of us remember when this site was having difficulties maintaining band width. Some complained at the time about the comments section being cut off too quickly, an attempt to preserve that band width, I believe.
Lets face it, some of us could make 4 or 5 comments that, added together, would not come close to the length of some of gus’s comments. He is a prolific poster and his comments take up a lot of the band width on this site. It’s Ben’s site, and it’s Ben’s call.
Aw, why did I have to get dragged into this? ;-)
As far as gus goes, I have to admit I don’t read about 75% of what he writes. If you feel the need to fill that much space in a comment section on any topic, you should probably have your own blog or some other outlet to get your thoughts across.
Also, Ben has reigned in another poster recently for the same sort of thing. I won’t bring up the name or the subject…
Bottom line, it’s Ben’s site. If you don’t like the way things are run, there’s plenty of other places to go.
Funny thing about blogging! Read what you like skip the rest. Ben didn’t have to tell anyone he talked to Gus about how many posts he makes, but he did and he loves to make sure everyone knows this is his site. If you don’t like the rules go make your own site kind if sounds familiar. I think a certain Mayor said something similar about living in PG. Kind of like a Rooster in a chicken coop, Foghorn Leghorn comes to mind.
Nice pictures of the Chickadees.
