Prince George, B.C. – The team that headed up  last year’s Relay for Life has been  recognized  with a special award.

The Canadian Cancer Society has  named the  group , led by Trevor Patenaude, Tyler Neilson, Davy Greenlees, Jill Greenlees, Les Waldie and Jayne Stevens as  the recipient of the “National Impact Award of Excellence – Leadership”.

Last year’s Relay for Life in Prince George, set a new  local record for  funds raised  by bringing in more than $548 thousand dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society, the second highest  amount raised  among the 487 Relays for Life held across Canada.

"Achieving this amazing award would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of so many volunteers, participants and outstanding support this community provides year after year," said Patenaude, leadership chair for the 2013 Relay For Life. "This committee put such heart and such passion into every meeting, every conversation, every idea and every decision. Like Prince George, we supported each other and worked together with the goal of helping produce the most successful Relay For Life Prince George had ever seen. I thank all of you for helping make 2013 a record-setting year, now let's finish what we started and take that No. 1 spot in 2014."

Registration deadline for the 2014 Prince George Relay For Life is April 25. Registration can be done online or by visiting the local Canadian Cancer Society office at 1100 Alward Street.
