Two From North Celebrated As BC’s ‘Young Guns’

Sunday, March 30, 2014 @ 5:56 AM

Prince George, BC – Two rising stars from Northern BC are featured by BCBusiness as the top 30 Under 30 in the magazine's April issue…

27-year-old Amy Dopson of Prince Rupert is ranked 8th on the list of the province's best and brightest.  Dopson is the founder and owner of Pac 10 Tutoring, which has grown from tutoring 30 students when it opened in 2009, to now assisting 94 students at a time in the coastal community.  According to her profile in BCBusiness, the Tsimshian First Nation from Kitselas says her age, not her gender or ethnicity, posed the biggest challenge when she began pursuing funding for her idea at 22.

In 24th spot on the list of 30 is 23-year-old Burns Lake Mayor Luke Strimbold.  Strimbold's profile notes his calm resolve in navigating his community through the tumultuous aftermath of the explosion and fire at the Babine Forest Products Sawmill that killed two workers in January of 2012 – just months into his tenure as mayor at the age of 21.

Nominations for the magazine's annual 30 Under 30 are accepted from the public.  This year's winners will be feted at a reception in Vancouver on April 30th.
