Kelowna Gets Green Light to Move Forward on New Police Building
Kelowna, B.C.- The City of Kelowna put the issue to the voters, and the voters didn't say no.
So Kelowna now has the approval to move forward and borrow nearly $43 million dollars for a new 90 thousand square foot “Police Services Building”.
Kelowna had initiated the alternate approval process which presented a window of 30 days for 9,484 residents(10% of the electorate) to sign a petition if they wanted to prevent the city from borrowing the cash.
By the deadline on Friday, March 28th, only 198 residents stepped forward to oppose the move.
Kelowna can now proceed with its plan that will see an RFP for a design-build project issued in June, a contract likely to be entered in later this year, design and construction to start in 2015 and move in in late 2017.

It’s about time. Git er dun!
Uh oh, keeping up with the jones is starting.
it seems statistically very unlikely that so very few were opposed.
there is more to this story obviously.
so I bet we waste way more money then they do..and the front of our new building looks nice..but the sides are horribly ugly.
Oh I’m sure Kelowna will buy the building plans from PG. Hahaha…….
Wonder if it will have bigger posts out front, size matters.
