Ground Control to Colonel Chris…..

Prince George, B.C. – Astronaut Chris Hadfield is already confirmed as the speaker at this weekend’s Bob Ewert Memorial Dinner and Lecture.
He has also agreed to sign books at Exploration Place from 11:30 – 1 p.m. on Saturday, but the Prince George Public Library is hoping to lure the good Colonel to touchdown at the Library .
“We’d love it if Colonel Hadfield, known booklover and actual Rocket Scientist, needed to say, find some reference material for his speech on Saturday night or access some free WiFi, -if he found himself at the public library where we just so happen to be staging an Astronaut-themed story and activity time for young children” says Andrea Palmer, Communications Coordinator for the P.G. Public Library.
The Library is hosting a “So You Want to be an Astronaut” event. Young people from ages 5 – 12 will hear space themed stories, some cosmos-based activities, and even a “look like Colonel Hadfield” opportunity, complete with specially crafted helmet and moustache.
“In all seriousness,” states Palmer, “There has been a lot of buzz in our community around the arrival of Colonel Hadfield and this is our way of including children with an interest in space and astronauts in the zeitgeist of the moment. Of course we’d love it if he stopped by, but we’ll be having a lot of fun even if he doesn’t.”
The event is set from 1-2:30, it is free, and open to children aged 5-12 and any 54 year old Canadian Astronauts who happen to be in the area.

I would imagine Col. Hadfield is a person in great demand all over Canada these days. PG folk should feel somewhat honoured that he is visiting our town, his exploits in space help keep Canada in the worlds’ eye.
I doubt the royalties from his book will cover the costs of travel and lodging.
