Winter Games …On Target

Monday, March 31, 2014 @ 9:01 PM

Prince George, B.C.-The work done so far on the  Canada Winter Games,  is paying off.

In an update to Prince George City Council, Society Chair, Anthony Everett, says he can’t go anywhere without people talking to him about the Games. The test events that have been held at many of the venues are being praised by participants.  “We are already having people tell us they want to come back.”

In a presentation to Prince George City Council, the call for volunteers continues, and is moving towards the 4500 target.  Latest count has the number of volunteers at the 3,000 mark.

The business side of the Games has the fundraising efforts well underway “We are well in advance of the business plan we had developed” says Everett.  He says they have already secured 89.5% of the fundraising challenge.  Everett says no Games Society has achieved this level of funding commitment at this point leading up to the Games. “The Board is not satisfied with the amount of funds we have raised, but we are comfortable with where we are now.”  Finances are top of mind says Everett, as any shortfall would have to be covered by the City.

That’s the scary part!

If we had the PAC right now we could hypothetically cover that shortfall with ticket sales. Hypothetically.

Leaving a legacy. Can that be construed as leaving a debt? What’s in a word, eh? My dictionary says a legacy is “something handed down from a predecessor”. Sounds to me that key word “something” can mean debt. I love my dictionary.

I would of bought a PG Winter Games shirt but it wasn’t made in Canada! Why didn’t they find a Canadian supplier?

lol noway even Canadian Olympic stuff was made in china.

“Everett says no Games Society has achieved this level of funding commitment at this point leading up to the Games.” .. easy to say when 75% of the funding is coming from taxpayers and they have no choice but to pay it through their taxes. I see the money from the areas that are suppose to count aren’t coming through too good. What a gross discrepancy between public and private funding when the only people who will actually make money on this is the private sector, the public sector will get saddled with debt once again to satisfy a few elitists who want to appear more important than they actually are.

Meh, im okay with paying for this with Taxes. I’m a big supporter of all things sport! Go Canada!
