Prince George, B.C. – The air temperature may have read 6 degrees but with a wind blowing at close to 30 kilometres an hour, it definitely felt cold enough to snow at Fort George Park Saturday afternoon.

However, that did not stop more than 600 excited youngsters and their parents from turning out for an afternoon of fun topped off by an Easter egg hunt.  The event is put on by Fun 4 Families Canada, a group of families that get together and put on affordable events for families throughout the year.  Organizer Lori Trupp says the event has no funding whatsoever from any government body.  “No, we do it all by selling our tickets or asking a little bit for admission and we get some donations along with prizes now and then.”  She says the events usually break even “but if there ever is any profit we put it into the next event.  We do Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween.  We’re going to be doing a Slimefest, a Pirate Day, we have all kinds of events that we put on.”

Trupp says Fun 4 Families has been together “since about 2004 under this name.  I’ve also gone under my other name, Boredom Busters BC, and I come from Calgary and used to do it there so now I’ve just brought it to Prince George and it’s getting bigger and bigger and bigger!”  Asked why she is involved Lori says “I’ve just always done it.  I love the kids and them having fun and when you watch how they’re smiling and having a good time, like if you just saw how the Easter Bunny made them smile, that’s what makes my day.”

Trupp says there were over 470 kids pre-registered for the Easter Egg Hunt and the number of walk-ups was quite surprising.  “There’s been people who have been coming and saying what’s going on, what’s going on, so that’s been great.”

The “hunt” involved the kids charging out into a cordoned off area of the park, finding plastic eggs, and then turning them in for all sorts of things including toys, prizes, candy, chocolate, granola bars, gum, airplanes, “ and just about anything a kid would want.”

The event helped raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society’s 2014 Relay For Life in Prince George, running May 10th and 11th at Masich Place Stadium.
