3 P.G. Students Get BC Arts Council Scholarships

Prince George, B.C. – Three Prince George students have received scholarships from the B.C. Arts Council.

Benjamin Hawkins received $6,000 to study visual arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design

Gillian P. Wigmore has received $5,500 to study creative writing at University of British Columbia

Elizabeth Houg has received $3,100 to study media arts at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design
The BC Arts Council has also delivered grants to some Prince George Arts organizations:
- Prince George Folkfest Society received $30,000 to create an artistic/executive director position.
- The Theatre North West Society received $15,000 to hire an administrative assistant.
- The Fraser-Fort George Museum Society received $75,000 and
- The Prince George and District Community Arts Council received $21,475 for operating activities for the year.
- The Prince George Regional Art Gallery/Two Rivers Gallery received $63,000 for operating activities for the year and $16,000 to purchase capital assets.
The B.C. Arts Council consults with the arts and culture community to develop policies, programs and strategic priorities for the sector. Last year, the Council approved more than 1,000 grants in over 200 communities in every region of the province.
