Council Remuneration To Be Reviewed
Prince George, B.C.- It’s that time of the term for City Councilors in Prince George, the time when their remuneration is to be reviewed and any possible changes ( increases) be put in place to take effect January 1st, 2015.
The bylaw covering Council remuneration calls for a review in the 2nd quarter of the last year of the Council’s term. Since there is an election this November, that means the review has to be completed by the end of June.
As was the case when the last review was done, Council will be asked to call for members of the public to be part of the independent review committee which will make a recommendation to Council on:
- whether or not there should be an increase in the amount Mayor and Council are paid,
- how much an increase should be.
It would then be up to the current Council to vote on the outcome of the committee’s recommendations. Their vote will impact the payment made to the next Council.

Good chance for the mayor and council to show their leadership and demonstrate the 10% reduction they were pushing when they were pushing when elected.
Definitely, in support of all others who don’t get any increase in their income.

Only problem being, any increase they approve will not come in to effect until after the next election so this might have no effect for some of them.
Hopefully axman is right and a few (at least three or four) Council members will not be around to reap the benefits of an increase.
With the next term being for four years no doubt they will ensure that the increases cover the fourth year.
No mention of decreases.
And people complain about teachers????????
Ridiculous. There is no way that these over-spending short term employees should be able to write their own cheque.
I would say that councillors aren’t in it for the money. Concillors don’t get paid much, considering their responsibility.
Johnny, wait for the swamp to dry out, I have some land for sale.
The dead TruDoh! once said, “You pay peanuts, you get monkeys.” Good justification, eh?
I think Council is doing a horrible job of most things, but as JohnnyBelt said, no one on Council is doing it for an easy cash grab–being on Council is a lot of work. If it was little work or easy you’d have most of the Opinion250 commenters fighting for a spot on Council.
