Prince George- A fire has engulfed an apartment building at the south west corner of Westwood and Ferry Avenue in Prince George.
The fire broke out just after 4.00 am. this morning. ( Wednesday) in the apartment block that is part of the multi family development across from the John McInnis School property.

A by stander says he first noticed smoke coming from the building at that time. It appeared to him to be just someone burning wood. A short time later, he says there was a blast, and flames quickly covered the whole building.
It is not known how many people occupied the apartment building , or if there are any injuries.

At least in the past, there were quite a few foreign students living in that building. I sure hope everyone’s okay.
Good to see #1crimefighter on scene. Just too bad he couldn’t have identified the early smoke – just thought it was wood burning stove on Underhill.
Very bad fire!!
Any updates on that?
That apartment is 4 storeys with 4 storey wood framed. It has a single access from Westwood on the east, with virtually no fire fighting access on the west side since it backs onto residential properties.
It will be interesting to see whether we will hear any comments about that.
If there were residential type sprinklers in the building and they failed to go off, that would not surprise me. It could be because there was a small fire followed by an explosion as was suggested by someone.
