It’s Official – T-Wolves In Canada West

Wednesday, May 7, 2014 @ 8:30 AM

Prince George, BC – The University of Northern BC is now an official member of the Canada West conference of Canadian Interuniversity Sport…

Members of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association voted in favour of moving UNBC from a probationary member to full membership status at the association's annual general meeting in Harrison Hot Springs yesterday.  The nod brings to an end a lengthy, years-long process – the UNBC Timberwolves first submitted their application to join Canada West in 2008, but only received support to become a probationary member in 2010, with 2012-13 becoming their inaugural competitive season

UNBC interim President Mark Dale says the nod is extremely exciting for the Timberwolves' program, and the university, as a whole.  "Academically, UNBC is recognized as one of the top research intensive institutions in the country.  Now, as members of Canada West, we will compete both academically and athletically with some of the top schools in Canada."

"The move is the product of the support of numerous people and demonstrates the growth of the university's athletic department," says the university's Director of Athletics and Recreation, Loralyn Murdoch, who has been involved in the process from the beginning.

Murdoch says, "The hard work of so many people over the past seven years has finally paid off.  I am thankful to them for beginning this initiative and for their continued support.  The future is bright for UNBC Athletics."
