Haldi Road Residents Disappointed in Ruling

Wednesday, May 7, 2014 @ 3:39 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Haldi Road area residents say they are disappointed in the  Supreme Court  decision that was delivered today.

The case saw the residents challenging the  City's  approval of  an  ammendment to the Official  Community Plan  which allowed for institutional uses in rural residential neighbourhoods.

The Haldi Road Committee issued a release in response  to the  decision  today, saying  "Our neighbourhood did not decide to take their City to court on a whim. We felt that there was no other recourse in order to maintain the rural, residential lifestyle as reflected and offered us in the City Strategic Plan, the Social Plan, the ‘My PG’ – Integrated Community Sustainability Plan and the Official Community Plan, all of which assures us that we will be engaged and thereby involved in the enhancement and protection of our respective neighbourhoods."

The committee offered thanks to its lawyer,  and adds "It was an ordeal that we hope that no other neighbourhood should have to endure."

Mini-abattoir on George St. coming soon? Could happen.

I really don’t like the idea of a city ramming something down residents throats.
Nuf said.

Whatever happened to that court case involving the mayors conflict of interest over the haldi affair?

It appears the rest of the city could not care less what goes on.

Guess people just do not understand it is not just the Haldi people who lost it is the whole city as the bylaw and zoning now covers the WHOLE city.

I personally would like to thank all the Haldi residents for their fights, especially the last court case because it turned out it was on behalf of the whole whole city on their dime!

The Haldi Road residents drop the conflict of interest challenge because of the proposed cost of a trial case and that is the only reason.

A very sad day for the good citizens of our city.

The trial level judge told the city how to plug their OCP hole and now there will be no stopping the villains in Gotham city.

If the court won’t put on the Bat Cape against the likes of the Joker and the Riddler, who will?

Boo Hoo to the Haldi “people”….this “NOT in my neighborhood” mentality has to go, this IS a city and like it or not the treatment center is as good on Haldi Road as any other City location. Glad the city won!

I dislike Mayor and Council as much as the next guy, but at the end of the day I’m happy that the courts upheld the decision to build the treatment centre. The redneck NIMBY attitudes of the Haldi Rd residents is disgusting.

I’m very disappointed in the comments of some people on here. ‘Booing’ the residents of haldi rd. I don’t live on or near haldi but I tell u this. I would NOT want this treatment centre beside me or my family! I support them 100% and am sad they lost their fight.

Well they are NIMBYs. I also really doubt that ALL of the Haldi residents are opposed to the treatment center. Really it is no big deal and yes I would not mind a treatment center in my back yard or front or……These kind of nimbys are not Christians or any other kind of tolerant people and should be booed. As to the success rate, I doubt any one said the success rate was 100% or even close to it, have you ever tried to quit smoking and been successful the first time An abattoir on George st.? Kool.

Haldi Road did the right thing, and took the City to court. Even though they lost, they were prepared to put up their own money, and fight this issue based on principle as much as any thing else.

Anyone who thinks that this particular location on Haldi Road appeared out of thin air as a prime location for a women’s treatment centre hasn’t got a clue about what actually took place.

In a City the size of Prince George with all the property that we have, and especially property that was already zoned for this type of facility, there was no need to locate it in the backyard of the Haldi Road residents.

Don’t forget that there was a group of people who wanted to set up a women’s treatment center at the Hutda Lake facility on the Blackwater Road, but were not able to make any headway. I wonder why??

Don’t forget that we had a treatment centre for women called Nechako Treatment Center attached to the hospital, which operated for over 30 years, and could have been upgraded and used for the next 30 years. I wonder why the Government closed it down,.

There has always been more to this treatment center, and its location than meets the eye, however I doubt if it will ever see the light of day.

We have many people having to make decisions on things without having access to all the information. This is vintage City Hall way of doing business.

In my opinion this is the straw that broke the camels back. I think that Mayor Green, should start looking for a new line of work.

K3sphone “I’m very disappointed in the comments of some people on here. ‘Booing’ the residents of haldi rd.”

Some of the people on this site bad mouthing the residents appear have to have changed their names and are well know to lower themselves to name calling. Have you ever noticed it has always been the proponents name calling?

Especially like pizzacook’s comment. So narrow minded. lol

“These kind of nimbys are not Christians or any other kind of tolerant people and should be booed.”

I am sure there is another race there that has the me-me attitude.

And now to label all of Haldi people not Christians? WoW…

These beds will do nothing for the addicted in PG since they go for a cool $6000.00 per client. Anyone you see downtown be able to fork that over? This is simply another money making project disguised as a treatment center.

My prediction tells me there are some GREENer pastures happening outside of the City of Prince George Population 79,000

79,000 beers on the wall…take one down and pass it around…..

It’s pretty simple really. If you think this whole deal stinks.
Don’t vote for certain people in the fall.
Don’t buy vehicles from certain car dealerships.
Pay attention to who funds the mayors campaign this fall and don’t support any of those businesses.

Haldi Road, area of the aleate! I’m here to tell you, when I drove taxi,it was one area I would take a fare to without a $100.00 deposit. I got ripped off May more than once in that dump of a subdivision! The fancier the house, the worse it was. It was usually the spoiled kids of the rich families, but my policy, you want a ride, lay $100.00 in the palm of my hand. If not, I put the word out an you walk.

Having said that, this treatment center does not belong in Haldi Lake Rd. Area. I wonder if anybody on the Supreme Court would want this in their back yard? I think not! These people have messed up, maybe not always their own fault, but not Haldi’s fault! It’s a long story to be told, and a treatment center there is so wrong. If a clients fails, they rip off a cab to get to town, because they’re so far out.

We had a guy out at the Baldy Hughes treatment place. He would phone for a taxi, and meet us down the road a bit. Money up front, and it was a return trip for cocaine. Gods truth

Taxi

Out of all the people in the world the Christians are the most narrow minded people that think that they are above everyone else, well they are not

I guess we will see how the treatment centre helps or ruins the area.
