Three Way Deal Assists Forest Related Work in Quesnel

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 @ 3:50 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Pacific BioEnergy has entered into a partnership with Tolko and  the Nazko First Nation.

The agreement uses Pacific BioEnergy’s mountain pine beetle salvage license in the Quesnel Timber Supply Area..

Under the agreement,  there will be harvesting work for  Nazko Logging , additional log supply for Tolko’s Quest Wood sawmill in Quesnel, and additional fibre for Pacific BioEnergy’s pellet  plant  in Prince George.

“More harvesting of beetle-killed stands clears the way for reforestation and new trees for the future” says  Pacific BioEnergy’s Vice President Brad Bennett. “This agreement generates on-going economic benefits for Quesnel and is a model for cooperation and collaboration that others in the forest industry can learn from.”

The agreement also allows Tolko to invest in a new ‘Biomass Processing Facility’ that will be used to  change low value mountain pine beetle killed logs into pulp chips and biomass fibre for use  at other facilities in the area.

Comments

This is a competitively bid forest license that requires specifically that a pellet plant be constructed in Quesnel. Pacific BioEnergy is going to take the fiber to PG. Nice press release but bad news for Quesnel.
