Campsite Partying a No No This Weekend

Wednesday, May 14, 2014 @ 3:59 AM

Prince George, B.C.-  Thinking about heading out  to one of the recreation sites in the Prince George region on the this long weekend?  The plans had better not include any wild partying.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations has issued a number of reminders on the rules and regulations  at  several  area recreation sites.

Buckhorn Lake,   Ste. Marie Lake, Ste. Marie Lake-East, Francis Lake, Chubb Lake and Great Beaver Lake Recreation Sites:

* It is illegal to cause a deliberate or unnecessary disturbance at any time of day.

* Camping is only allowed in established campsites.

* Campers are only are allowed to occupy one campsite and must not leave any personal belonging in a campsite other than the one they are occupying.

* Total occupancy must not exceed 10 people and a maximum of two vehicles per campsite.

* The operation or use of motorcycles, ATVs and personal watercraft is prohibited.

* Anyone evicted from a recreation site by a recreation officer or peace officer must not re-enter or attempt to re-enter the site for 72 hours.

Violations of these rules may result in fines of up to $2,000.

And then there  are reminders about Crystal Lake and Emerald Lake:

Emerald Lake recreation sites, north of Summit Lake off Highway 97, will be closed to vehicle traffic May 17-19, 2014. During this time both sites will be open to walk-in traffic only.

Overnight camping is allowed at Emerald Lake; however Crystal Lake recreation site is designated day-use only at all times.

Access to these sites is being restricted in an effort to eliminate large gatherings and rowdy behaviour over the long weekend.

Motorists are advised that turnaround space is extremely limited at the Crystal Lake gate entrance and that, for public-safety reasons, vehicles will not be permitted to obstruct the entrance to either recreation site.

Long weekend patrols will be in effect to enforce the rules.

No personal watercraft? I can’t bring a canoe to a lake?

Or a belly boat!

or a kayak.

Anyway, good slam those people hard. Could use a good night sleep out there.

Shut down all the campsites for wild party. Than open up one lake for the party animals, than at least they can be contained. to one site.

So is there enough pseudo cops out their to police all these sites?

Make the public be the police, video cams on the phone makes it easy. liscence plates and bam, you got them.

I love camping, but hate dealing with drunk rednecks.

That’s a good way to get the snot kicked out of you by a swarm of drunken yahoos.

Thats why we like to hike in to places now. Its funny how the drunken rednecks seem to converge at spots that you can fit a 30′ trailer and a couple of quads into. Must be coincidental, but if it takes a little effort to get to a campsite it seems to weed out the partiers… ;)

Other words; NO FUN ALLOWED …. why bother going …. we have such anal laws ….. why would one go to a lake if they can’t take a boat in the water … stupid …. we could learn from the more relaxed laws of Europe … which have worked well forever

“Personal Watercraft” are Sea-Doos, Jet-skis etc.

And that’s another issue. I have a licensed and insured in BC dual sport motorcycle which has no issue getting to these campsites, but I’m not allowed there? Why am I being discriminated against?

axman, I think it would be hard for the officier to complain that you have a licensed and insured motorbike on the campsite. Especially if it was your means to get to the site. Hmmmmm would like an update on that!

Should these bikes, ATV’s be used to chew up the campsite and surrounding area. I think that is where the problem is.

What right does the ATV user have to destroy public land. None, that is why they are cracking down on the ATV users. So they should.

Not to mention seeing people doubling on ATV’s, without helmets, and kids under 16 riding on them. No wonder there are so many injuries.

The days of carefree tromping thru the bush with the 4×4 and chewing up mud is gone. Taking your ATV in the bush, and busting donuts are gone. So it should be.

Bring in bigger fines, confiscate the ATV’s and 4×4 that are destroying the alpine meadows, and or indiscrimnant damage to our campsite and wilderness. The province puts the teeth into this, and our children’s children have something to enjoy. Make these Redneck realize that it is not a right to ride a ATV, it is a responsibility. Change the mindset, and we all will win in the long run.

The answer to you is, NO I don’t own a ATV, but have owned a bush romping 4×4 before. Never abused the wilderness, had some fun on some roads thou.

I think the government need to change the mindset of the ATV drivers. to change the driving habits of ATV, Seadoo, Snowmobile. A whole bunch of TV ads from victims of accidents and how it happened and what they are doing now.

We changed our driving habits from the seventies because it is not acceptable to drink and drive.

I find this a bit ridiculous in all honesty. My buddies wanted to go out
And have a party in a safe manner and enjoy our long weekend an now we can’t. Ya we were going to drink and have music up but be respectful of other campers and go to a place where nobody else was but nope that’s not happening now. Because a bunch of people wanna be party police and ruin everyone’s weekend

The sites mentioned in the article have a long history of abuse that costs tax payers lots of $$ to maintian and repair.

If anyone has witnessed the aftermath of grad parties ect, at these sites they would realize why enforcement is being stepped up.. There is respectable camping and having a good time but what has happend at some of these sites is pretty outragous..

Personaly in my travels i have witnessed trees fallen on picnic tables, tables/out houses burned down.. Its not your average ATV user/regular camper doing this..Just the average ATV user/camper is getting penalized becuse of the actions of a select few..

Have a good weekend everyone.. Cheers..

“Not to mention seeing people doubling on ATV’s, without helmets, and kids under 16 riding on them. No wonder there are so many injuries.”

You can’t fix stupid.

I was told Darwin found a way to fix stupid

He spoke: He did but its what these people cause others to endure until it catches up to them that is the problem and any they may take out on the way.

BTW, the people who caretake Crystal and Emerald lake might want to go over the vehicle area with a magnet. People burning pallets there have left a huge amount of nails on the ground. I picked up two handsful last year once when we went there, in about fifteen minutes.

I’m tired of everyone who owns an ATV being painted by a broad brush and labeled a yahoo or a redneck. I do own an ATV and you won’t find me ripping up pristine alpine meadows or tearing up camp sites. I use my bike to explore. Its as simple as that.

Sure, some people do these things and they should be dealt with accordingly. However I should still be able to enjoy riding my INSURED ATV on trails and forest service roads and not be hassled if I want to camp at a forest rec site.

Glad I live in rural community . That is just ridicules and good luck on the 3 to 5 forestry personal that have to deal with all that policing. Have to say those are some strict rules for some places, no Canoeing, that’s just so un Canadian. Just go back to Stony or Narrow lake little too far for folks to go checking.

If everyone had common sense and respect (for others and the environment), there wouldn’t be a need to the extra rules and enforcement.

No, not everyone who rides an ATV is a yahoo, but it seems that there are more and more of them these days. It is incredible how many people own these machines and don’t know what the capabilities are (and aren’t).

Give more, I had a piece of property where the public insistent on using their ATV across my property. I put up signs, Built baracades, did every thing, nothing stopped them….. until someone spilled 50 lbs of roofing nail all over the trail….. no ATV with in days.

sadly, this problem is caused by morons who don’t know when to stop drinking and wreck the weekend for others. And then when they are totally wasted and run out of wood they light outhouses and picnic tables on fire, oh, and then when they’re semi-sober they drive off and leave their trail of mayhem behind. Grow up people and act semi-responsible and we can all have fun.
Oh, and the parents who drop their kids off in the bush with beer and say “have fun.”

So ‘he spoke’ is a terrorist that endorses booby trapping trails with nails. You might need some counseling ‘He spoke’. This is a sign akin to the teen age kid that tortures cats. There is nothing more pathetic than a person that puts down devices that cause harm on a trail in the juvenile attempt to blindly cause harm to unsuspecting passer byes in a malicious fashion.

If there is a watch list than ‘he spoke’ most definitely qualifies.

Motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and personal watercrafts are not allowed to
be used or operated within an above listed Recreation Site;

———To me this means it is not to be operated within the boundary of the recreation site. Meaning if one pushes it to edge of the campsite they still can ride. Or furthermore if one has a cabin on the lake and thus are not a visitor to the recreation site, then one can also still ride.

So in other words as long as one is not a jackass than its alright. If confronted with a park hitler than time to move along.

A few rules are alright as it makes it a better camping experience for everyone. Its the extremists that are the problem on all sides of any situation.
