Prince George, B.C. – Work is  staring on the  conversion of 4th Avenue to  two way traffic.

The  $400 thousand dollar project will include:

  • upgrades to traffic signals and signage at the Dominion and Queensway crossings

  • reduction in the number of lanes from  three to  2

  •  increase sidewalk space the Brunswick, Quebec, and Dominion intersections,

There will be no increase to the number of parking spaces on 4th  Avenue,  as angle parking will not be introduced on this  roadway “4th  just isn’t wide enough  to allow for angle parking” says Heather Andreychuk, Supervisor of Engineering with the City of Prince George.

Work will begin on Fourth Avenue in June and the traffic change-over is expected to occur in August.

“We hope to have  all traffic turned by August, before the snow flies” says Andreychuk.

She says  4th Avenue  has often  caught  people off guard  with its  one way east bound  flow  “People on 4th Avenue  have told me  they see at least one  driver a week going the wrong way.”

The transition to  two way traffic will  happen for east bound traffic at Winnipeg, while  westbound traffic  will  have to  turn left or right at Winnipeg.

Once the work is complete, 2nd Avenue will be the last one way street in the downtown.

Nice idea but somewhat suspect when Ms. Green’s store is located on 4th Avenue.

This is a super idea, about time they made a 100 year old town look nice for people and tourist to see. E.G. Quesnel

How does going from a one way street to a two way street make “a 100 year old town look nice”?

This project has been in the works for at least 5 years so nothing to do with Greens store being there.

You can show up, but you just can’t leave.

Can’t leave well enough alone. eh? We have to spend taxpayers money. Any more suggestions on how to spend more money?

Hope it does not turn into another “Gateway”
project.. The Gateway looks terrible.

DPJ, Green’s been on council in the last 5 years before she became mayor.

willyj, I think the Gateway area looks pretty good given what they are working with. At least they are trying.

Have to agree on the Gateway looking alright! Wish the rest of the streets would look like that!

From a news article coming in 2025:
“Last two way street in PG changed to a one way. Councillors say that one ways are safer and more efficient”

Wow $400,000 worth of lines for the road. I can’t believe the city gets away with not having lines on the road and it’s all over the city. How about finish what you started, that would be fantastic but that would be to practical.

4th ave is at least as wide as 3rd, if not wider?
Does anyone have measurements?

Well if you have a walk down Fourth Ave and look at the sidewalks now, then look at the fancy artist’s rendition of what they would “like to do” it leaves many questions. Bulbing the corners are going to create issues with snow removal. The other bulbed corner in town already have missing bricks and gouges from snow removal. Given the weather here, those bricks are slicker than water on ice in the winter. How about the parking issue, this will still be parallel parking** (**a skill set lost on many Prince George motorists). I know it may sound negative but all this messing around just so the police have two way access to castle grey skull via fourth ave is a bit much.

Another side note to the angle parking, if you add enough rake to the stalls there’s lots of room for diagonal parking on Fourth Ave.

western2…Just a coincidence. I assure you.

We’ve all heard the putting lipstick on a pig line before. It may apply to this story for a few reasons.
As for 4th ave, you could put 9 way traffic on it. Same poop different pile.

I am thinking Green did not vote on this improvement due to conflict of interest. Politicians have to follow very strict protocol regarding conflict of interest issues.

Putting aside these arguments, it is nice to see the city investing money into the downtown area. Many complaints that this has not been happenning. Now the complaints come in that they are doing it.
