Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George Fire Centre has responded to nine suspicious fires in the past two weeks, all within the Fort St. John Fire Zone near Halfway River and Graham River.

All of these fires are now either extinguished or contained. The largest is 150 hectares and is north of the Halfway River in the Fort St. John Fire Zone.

It is suspected these fires were deliberately set and Wildfire Management Branch staff are working with the RCMP to investigate the cause of each blaze.

The Prince George fire centre is calling on members of the public to report suspicious fire activity by using the principle of "observe, record, report". If suspicious behavior is suspected, they should record details about the incident and report them to the RCMP as soon as possible, including:

* a physical description of the person(s) involved

* a description of any vehicles in the immediate area, including license plate numbers

* the date and time of the incident

Crimes can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers at www.bccrimestoppers.com or by calling 1 800 222-TIPS (8477). If a tip results in an arrest and charge, the caller could receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
