Victoria, B.C.- Geoscience BC will receive $3 million dollars to continue its latest project “Targeting Resources for Exploration and Knowledge” (TREK) which is focused on a plateau in the northern interior.
Geoscience BC says the area has been underexplored for possible mineral resources because of “complicated and poorly understood bedrock geology and overburden. “
The TREK project will include:
- new airborne geophysics;
- new stream, lake, soil and till geochemical sampling; and
- new geological mapping and mineral deposit studies.
The project covers an area of over 20,000 square kilometers south from Vanderhoof and Fraser Lake and west from Quesnel.
In addition to seeking minerals, the project will explore the area’s potential for geothermal opportunities

Too bad they wouldn’t do a forests inventory while they are at it and in the area. If they combined this with their mapping all over B.C., we’d have that too.

You want a bunch of geologists to do a forest inventory?
Besides, most of the Quesnel TSA had a forest inventory completed 5 or so years ago and the Lakes District is being done right now.
