More Road Rehab Projects Added to List

Monday, May 26, 2014 @ 4:04 AM

Prince George, B.C. – There  are some additions to the already  extensive list of  road rehab projects that will be undertaken this year in Prince George.

Superintendent of Operations for the City, Bill Gaal, says some savings have been found through the RFP for asphalt, and  the joint tendering for asphalt supply  with the Province.

That means there is about $755,000  available so  a few other projects can be added to the list.

The add-ons are:

  • 15th Avenue between Victoria Street and Lower Patricia (Dominion Street) $200,000
  • Southridge Avenue between St. Anne and St. Lawrence $70,000
  • Eastern Street between Railway and Terminal $100,000
  • Blackwater Road from the 2014 scheduled limit of construction to City Limits $235,000
  • 18th Avenue between Foothills and Ospika $150,000

In all,  the City will be spending $9.8 million dollars on road  rehab projects  this year,  the most ever spent on road  rehab and will see upgrades to a total of 34 roads, or sections of roads, in the city.

The work will begin once the asphalt plant is up and running,  and is expected to be completed in October.

How about the highway 16 west between West Gate and Wall Mart, that is somewhat embarrassing.

I think that is the responsibility of the province of BC not city buzz

How does this additional paving tie in with the earlier story that some paving would not get done because the paving company is busy in other areas???

If only we could get our street sweep before the snow begins to fall. Barnes and Cormack, last on the list for snow removal and street sweeping.
When calling about the reason for the lack of street sweeping and asking why Davis and Charella get sweep I was told it was a bus route. When it was pointed out that Davis and Charella are not a bus route the story changed and they became an arterial route. Same old BS from city management.
