Public Hearings on Monterey Road Proposals

Monday, May 26, 2014 @ 3:55 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Changes to the OCP to allow for development on properties on Monterey East and West  are up for public hearing at  Prince George City Council this evening.

One change  calls for changes to the OCP to allow for  some commercial and a storage facility to be  built on the north side of Monterey Road West and a motel and commercial  development on the  south side.

The other  hearing  concerns land on the east side of highway 97,  where there is  a 21 hectare parcel of land which  is accessed by Monterey Road East.  The plan there calls for an OCP amendment to allow for  industrial  and commercial development.

There will also be  a public hearing this evening to deal with changes to the  second hand store pawn brokers bylaw.  The change would remove  the restrictions  on scrap metal  dealers  as they are already covered by  a provincial  act.

The city should approve the project as it could be a great thing for the local economy. We could have urban planning classes from all over North America visit PG while they do a case study of the area to see what happens when there is an complete and total lack of planning. Blight as far as the eye can see from the weight scales north. I think it would be considered something from the Jackson Pollack school of urban planning.

Not that long ago the city change the OCP designation for a piece of land at Northwood Pulp Road from residential to light industrial that eliminated greenspace from original designation and allow the full parcel to be developed.

To my eye it is by far the ugliest entrance to the city, even worse than 1st ave as there is really nothing that can be done to beautify a rail yard short of moving it. The south and west entrances show fairly well defined areas of residential and commercial developments that at least hint that there is a planning department at city hall.

Has the issue of the intentionally altered drainage of the pond at the North side of the property been resolved?
Seems to me that Mr. Matte was in hot water over this. It will be interesting to see how this proposed change to the o.c.p. proceeds.
metalman.

….to see how this proposed change to the O.C.P. proceeds. Does this mean that the local city administration hasn’t typed on a footnote on the bottom of every page of the O.C.P. that reads, “subject to change without notice” with lots of asterisks. Now there’s a plan, eh?
