Feds Set Up Office to Work with First Nations on Energy Projects
Prince George, B.C.- The Federal Government has announced it will be setting up a Major Projects Management Office West.
While not mentioning Northern Gateway, or the Kinder Morgan pipelines, the Federal Minister of Natural Resources, Greg Rickford, says the office’s main function will be to “facilitate meaningful engagement and ongoing dialogue with key partners such as industry, First Nations and the Government of British Columbia and to address the unique elements of energy exports in B.C.”
Specifically, the office will work with First Nations and “identify concrete action that will help support their (First Nations) involvement in West Coast energy projects in areas such as employment and business opportunities, and tanker and pipeline safety systems.”
A tripartite forum is also being established, which is to provide an opportunity for the Federal, Provincial and First Nations leaders to “share information, identify common interests and align efforts on issues directly impacting Aboriginal participation in the development of energy infrastructure and natural resources on Canada’s West Coast.”
Minister Rickford says there is a lot at stake "The responsible development of our energy resources and construction of the necessary infrastructure to get it to market will lead to hundreds of billions of dollars in economic activity, hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions in tax revenues to fund critical social programs."
The Major Projects Management Office West, will be located in Vancouver.

Goal is to âshare information, identify common interests and align efforts on issues directly impacting Aboriginal participation in the development of energy infrastructure and natural resources on Canadaâs West Coast.â
I know, let’s set it up in Vancouver and make first nations come to us.
So true the projects for the most part re in Northern BC,but setup in Van. The feds have learned very little howevr the staff most likely don’t want to be living in the north to close to he action.

No problem, first nations just need to setup their own local office (subsidized of course) and invite the Major Projects Management Office West (MPMOW) staff come to them by setting topical meetings between November and February.
The Major Projects Management Office West is just a contact point, right.
So this Harper government calls First Nations opposing the pipeline “terrorist” and “enemies of Canada” and now they are referring to these same First Nations as “key partners” in which to facilitate meaningful engagement and ongoing dialogue with.???
I have never seen a more “two faced” government before in my whole life. Be careful First Nations, this government speaks with a “forked tongue”.
Bye bye Dick Harris
it’s time for Dick Harris to go.He represents Ottawa not Prince George. He certainly has lived high on the hog for 20 years as Canada’s ultimate backbencher. It reminds me of line in Mars Attacks when the General say’s to his wife’i told you honey that if you say and do nothing you’ll go far’

Sorry everyone, but the riding is a Conservative stronghold. Maybe Dick Harris will go, but whoever takes his place will almost surely win.
