Student Calls on Peers to Join Sit -In
Prince George, B.C.- A Kelly Road High School student is taking a page from the 60's as she is calling on her peers across the province to join her in a "sit-in" to protest the current situation with teachers.
In a video posted on YouTube, grade 12 student, Amanda Tomm calls on her peers to take part in a sit-in at a common room, library, gymnasium whatever is available , in order to send a message.
She says both the BCPSEA and the BCTF "are interfering with our right to education".
She says she is standing up for here rights, by sitting down on June 2nd.
Kelly Road students took to the street early today, waving signs at the corner of Austin Road and Highway 97, calling for support for their teachers.
The BCTF rotating strikes will hit Prince George schools on Thursday of this week.

With the ever increasing waistline of todayâs youth I think she should set an example and stand while standing for her rights.
Every one has rights. Some more than others. I have a right to keep my wallet as full as I can. More taxes from me? No problem in some peoples eyes.
ewitt and Harbinger, great comments from both of you, haha!
But I thought they supported the teachers with today’s walkout! Which one is it? Can’t have it both ways!
They are two completely different things. Those students decided to “support” the teachers by walking out. We are choosing to support the students by sitting in.
The government ripped up a legal contract Amanda! Go out and stand with the teachers.
3 cheers to the government for standing up to the teachers. God help the future taxpayers with the ‘Amanda’s’ taking over.
NoWay…comments like that are exactly why Amanda should stand up for the students. The BCTF has lied repeatedly and the last one was a big one when they had teachers cancel fieldtrips etc and blamed the gov’t; but the letters released clearly show that the BCTF manipulated the teachers and students in order to cause more media hype. I am not by any means saying the gov’t is any better. What I am saying is the system isn’t working. They can’t come to a suitable resolution that is fair to the teachers, the taxpayers, and the students. I do believe teachers are acting in good faith. It would be nice if the contracts actually being negotiated reflected the concerns the teachers are listing. Our teachers deserve to be treated better and so do the students.
Hey contractor have you ever had your contract ripped up? You know the one where you bid on the job, win the job then the customer says no I’m only paying you this and the job is twice as big! Then you take the customer to court win twice and they still won’t pay you what they owe.
Amanda you now have to complete 16 years of conventional schooling because we don’t like the current education system. No choice except to quit and go somewhere else.
Support the teachers the government are crooks!
Nice one nitwit. You’re very clever.
Go Amanda!
Till Amanda has a job, a house payment, a car payment, a hydro bill, a fortis bill, etc and maybe even a bun in the oven she does not really have any skin in the game.
Can see her next year picketing at UNBC over tuition fees and demanding a free education without even realizing there is no such thing, at the end of the day someone has to pay.
Probably was 4 when the government ripped up a legal contract!
…the unsustainable sweetheart deal the NDP struck with the BCTF as they were about to get kicked out of office which would have cost taxpayers approx. $1 Billion. No wonder it was ripped up.
Hopefully the appeal is successful.
