Out with the Old…In with the New

Prince George, B.C. – The work to replace some 230 wooden hydro poles in the Prince George area will soon be underway.
BC Hydro plans to replace more than 10,000 wooden hydro poles across the province this year.
The poles have a lifespan of about 40 – 50 years, and more than 180 thousand of the 900 thousand in use throughout BC are reaching that age.
Over the years, wooden hydro poles can take a real beating from weather, insects and wildlife. Regular inspections of the poles determine their strength and once it’s been determined the pole has reached the end of its life, it will be replaced.
The replacement process means there may be a need to cut power and if that is necessary, customers will be notified.

If they remember. The swapped out some poles up the road a couple of weeks back and switched off my power with absolutely no warning. Too bad I can’t send them a bill for the data I lost.
I have often wondered why they haven’t gone to underground lines, like they have in some other places. It just seems that it would make so much more sense.
Sure we will be notified… just like we were supposed to be notified before they installed the new smart meters, and they didn’t.
Hopefully I don’t end up with another fried computer.
Give more, it would cost $50,000 to change out 10 poles, while putting it in under ground will be close to a million dollar by the time you restore everything
All underground in my area of foothills. Love it without power poles everywhere
So much for the impact of the Wood Innovation Centre.
If your data is so precious axman buy a UPS! When it starts to neap close your stuff!

Sure, it’s my fault the hydro crew was too damn lazy to walk up my driveway and tell me they were about to shut my power off.
Axman, surely you have heard that it’s wise to back up your data, and then back it up again! Also, use a good quality surge protector and a UPS if you need to power up your computer during power failures.
As my father always says, “Live and Learn”!!
Yes axman it is your fault. Power can go off at anytime planned or not so buy a UPS.

My fault they were lazy? Awesome. Thanks for missing the point.
Ohhh when I seen the headline, thought they were talking bout our Mayor :)
Axeman you just walk up the road and tell them how lazy they are. I double dare ya.
Your mistake, face it.
