Loren Leslie’s Parents Testify at Legebokoff Trial

Tuesday, June 3, 2014 @ 12:43 PM

Prince George, B.C.-  A day of difficult testimony at the  murder trial of  Cody Legebokoff

The parents of Loren Donn Leslie,  were on the stand.  Loren  was just 15 when she was found murdered on November 27th of 2010.  Her body located  off  a deserted logging road off highway 27.

When  presented with the exhibit of a  child’s back pack,  Donna  Leslie  held the  fuzzy monkey  back pack  close to her face,  stroking it  and saying “My daughter  loved this, she wore it all the time.”

Donna Leslie  testified that on the night Loren died,  “She was in her room on her computer, and I was across the hall reading a book”  She told the court Loren texted her saying she was going to  have a coffee with a girl friend,  and she texted back reminding Loren  she would have to be home by 1:00 a.m.

Donna Leslie says she  was relaxing with a book,  and was dozing off when police called her at midnight to tell her that her daughter had been murdered.

Father Doug Leslie painted a picture of a  typical teenage girl, who had some anxieties,  and while  Loren had  some  emotional  episodes,  at least one that landed her  in the hospital,  he thought the episodes were overblown.

Under cross examination Donna Leslie  testified that  Loren had some emotional problems “When she was depressed she would cut herself”.  She  also testified Loren would make superficial cuts to her wrists  "on a fairly regular basis"  perhaps as many as 9 times a year.  She told the court Loren was not trying to kill herself, "she was making a statement".

Donna Leslie testified that while Loren had never  said she wanted to  take her own life,  Donna was concerned that Loren might do so.

When asked if there were times whenb Loren  was delusional, or heard voices, Donna replied "Yes."

Loren had overdosed on  anti-depression  medication  one time, which led to her being hospitalized.  She had also been diagnosed as being bi-polar and was on medication.

There was a second incident, which happened in Saskatchewan in the summer of 2010. Loren was alone in  a  mobile home while  Donna was working.  When Donna  came home,  Loren  was  drunk,  and  had taken her medication.  Donna  says she believed Loren  did  not realize the drugs  might react  with the alcohol and that led to a trip to the hospital, where a “horrible Doctor”  tried to tell her that Loren had tried to  commit suicide and  was to be  admitted to a psychiatric hospital.  That lead to  Loren  running  away and  Donna said they “escaped from Saskatchewan” as Loren was “wanted , that police were tracking her phone”.

Doug Leslie   was asked to identify several items  including; a  hospital care card,  a wallet,  a back pack and a piece of jewellery.  He identified all of the items as belonging to Loren,  describing  in more detail the piece of jewellery “That is a family ring  I had made especially for her,  it had all our birthstones,  two January, two February, one  March, one May.”

Legebokoff is  charged with the murder of Loren Leslie,  Natasha Lynn Montgomery, Cynthia Maas, and Jill Stuchenko.

The trial continues.
