Constable Returns to the Stand
Prince George, B.C. – The trial of Cody Alan Legebokoff resumes this morning at 9:30 with RCMP Constable Aaron Kehler returning to the stand.
Constable Kehler is the one who pulled over Cody Legebokoff on Highway 27 on November 27, 2010, on the hunch that “something was odd”.
Kehler will be under cross-examination today, having already testified that he first thought he was dealing with an offence under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act, then he thought the investigation was one of a violation of the Wildlife Act as he believed he was dealing with a possible case of poaching.
The change came as he spotted what appeared to be droplets of blood on Legebokoff’s thighs, legs and shoes, a red watery puddle in the driver’s side floor mat, snow and blood on a pipe wrench, and the discovery of a leatherman style multi tool which Cst Kehler says was covered in “gelled blood.”
But there was also the discovery of a young woman’s back pack, wallet and health care card, so it was possible there was something else going on.
A Conservation Officer was called to assist, was sent down the logging road which Cst Kehler says he spotted Legebokoff’s vehicle , and he radioed back that his discovery was “The worst case scenario.”
Cst.Kehler says that’s when Legebokoff was handcuffed and advised he was under arrest for murder.
