Smithers, BC – RCMP in Smithers say a man has been charged with assault in connection with an incident in Telkwa earlier this week…

According to RCMP, a woman locked herself in a bathroom in a residence in the small community, after being assaulted by a man.  It's alleged the male suspect then used an axe to break a window and gain entry, forcing the female to flee on foot.  She was located by police, suffering minor injuries.

The suspect was also located near the residence and arrested without incident.  Police say the two are known to each other and alcohol was a factor.

The male will appear in Smithers Provincial Court.
