Theft Investigation At Dawson Creek RCMP Detachment Ends In Charges

Saturday, June 7, 2014 @ 4:44 AM

Dawson Creek, BC – An independent investigation into the disappearance of money from the exhibit room at the Dawson Creek RCMP Detachment has resulted in charges being laid against a Public Service Employee…

North District Operations Officer, Inspector Peter Haring, says officers noticed that a sum of money was missing during a routine audit of the exhibit room back in April.  Inspector Haring says a subsequent investigation pegged the amount at slightly more than $16-thousand dollars missing.

"When the audit revealed a discrepancy, we launched an independent investigation and brought in a team of outside investigators," says Haring.

As a result, charges of theft over $5000 and breach of trust have been laid against Marie Segstro of Dawson Creek.

"No other individuals were implicated in this investigation," says Haring, who adds, "Since this investigation began, the Dawson Creek RCMP has taken a number of steps to mitigate the risk of this happening again."

Segstro is set to stand trial September 8th.
