Prince George, B.C. – The importance of men receiving regular testing for prostate cancer could not be more appropriately stressed than during this Father’s Day weekend.
And prostate cancer awareness and fundraising for research was the number one focus of the more than 100 motorcycle riders who took to the streets of Prince George Saturday in the 4th annual Northern B.C. Motorcycle Ride For Dad. Their goal, through the Ride and the associated Poker Run, was raising $20,000 to go directly toward prostate cancer research right here in northern BC. All money raised here, stays here.
As Ride For Dad Chair Charles Brunette pointed out, the event “brought together members of several riding clubs in the area for one cause, the fight against prostate cancer.” Under a full RCMP escort, the ride set out from the Kinsmen Community Hall, covered a 54-kilometer route circling the city, and returned to Kinsmen Place. That was followed by the Poke Run which reached out to Pineview, Nukko Lake and Beaverly, with riders validating their Poker cards at four locations. The Ride also included lunch and prizes which came in from a multitude of generous sponsors.
The national Telus Ride For Dad has been going since 2000 in cities across Canada and has raised more than $13 million for prostate cancer research and awareness.
