Cheers…Happy Hour Returns

Prince George, BC – Say hello to an old friend…
Announced at the end of last year, happy hour has officially returned to BC, as part of revised liquor laws that went into effect yesterday.
The provincial government says allowing restaurants and pubs to alter their liquor prices throughout the course of the day is a pocketbook-friendly change to help the industry attract customers at times when businesses may typically be slow. The cheapest a drink can be offered up to entice patrons into licensed establishments is $3 – which would buy a 12-ounce sleeve of beer, a five-ounce glass of wine, or a 1.5-ounce cocktail.
"Whether it's meeting after work for a discounted pint, for example, or enjoying a happy hour cocktail on a Saturday afternoon, these changes create new social opportunities for British Columbians," says Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Suzanne Anton. "In setting the minimum price, it was important that we listened to both industry and health advocates."
Alliance of Beverage Licensees President, Poma Dhaliwal, says, "With happy hours up and running in BC, operators can cater to groups by offering drink specials for 'team nights', for example, helping fill their seats on slow days or during not-so-busy times."
Other changes stemming from the Liquor Policy Review – food-primary establishments must continue to offer a full menu, but patrons are no longer obligated to order food along with their drinks. And hosts of family Special Occasion License (SOL) events may now serve homemade and UBrew/UVin beer, wine or cider.

When you are driving home from happy hour keep right and don’t stop for ducklings.
And the big winner here is The Government.
“The cheapest a drink can be offered up to entice patrons into licensed establishments is $3 – which would buy a 12-ounce sleeve of beer, a five-ounce glass of wine, or a 1.5-ounce cocktail.”
Look at the graphic produced by the Gov’t. I clearly reads you can buy a 1oz spirit for $2.
argh… IT clearly reads…
Two (2) drinks in one hour would put most people into the .05 to .08 range,. So anyone drinking more than that would could be facing some serious charges.
Pylot Project: Read it again. $2 per I oz. 1.5 oz. cocktail for $3.
“And the big winner here is The Government.”
You say that like its a bad thing. We all demand services but complain about paying taxes to cover them. I have no problem with more income from vices.
Give More, I know what it says. You need to read the bottom right of the Promo Poster where it reads $2 for 1oz of spirits. All the others read $3/serving. If it’s $3 for 1.5oz, why not just say that?
“Happy hour’ make for happy wallets in BC “
Not for server’s wallets.
If I have two 2oz cocktails afterwork on a Friday, and leave my usual 20% tip, that would be $2 (rounded up) at this new pricing. Previously, that cocktail option would have provided the server a $5 tip (rounded up).
Yes I can still drop the fiver, but that would be a 62% tip.
And before you “holier than thou” trolls get on my ass, I take transit to/from work.

Who says everyone is going to be driving home Hmm? I assume that’s what this comment states, no? Some people are smarter than the average bear you know. It’s just those dumb twits who become lost in the moment by ruining it for those who don’t plan to drink and drive. I sure as hell am not a drunk driver and if I want to enjoy happy hour and get drunk I will. I’ll leave my precious vehicle at home and hail a taxi.
Three dollars for 1.5 ounces, 12 ounces or 5 ounces. Hmmm? I am sure this will not stop the whining about the price of a litre of gasoline. Ah, but that’s different. Right? How many “ounces in a litre, eh?”
In a number of establishments in BC, the price of a jug of beer just went up, instead of down. Bars were already selling 51oz and 60oz jugs cheaper than 25¢/oz.
hey you can all be like Christy Clark and take your kids with you now when you go drinking…
wonderful think to teach children… drinking and driving….
family that drinks and drives together dies together.
Thank You Christy Clark.

Charges for what?
I noticed a huge drop in patrons at bars etc once the useless new drinking and driving laws came in.. Now the governenment wants this money back ( we are so deep in debt with liberal spending they need all they can get ) and they are doing it a volunteer way.. you dont have to drink.. if you want..now you can find a sale :)
Why do people insist on stereotyping when alcohol is involved? The overwhelming MAJORITY of ADULTS drink socially without problems. No drink driving, no concerns, no anti social behaviour.
Please, please get your head out of the clouds and join the real world where ADULTS drink responsibly and are conscious of the decisions they make.
The regulations here are too strict and prohibition-like. A happy hour is a welcome breath of fresh air to a very outdated system…..
Only a complete tool could find a way to hate on happy hour.
One drink and then get behind the wheel of a vehicle is too many. But drink your faces off folks, the teachers need a raise.
If I go into a pub and there are children in there I will walk out ,,, pubs are for adults ,,, good meal or not there are many places to eat to take your kids for a good meal , this is sickening.
