North To Alaska , Well Kind Of

Wednesday, July 9, 2014 @ 3:59 AM

Prince George BC- John Kutzmin is heading to Alaska, well not in this 1901 Duryea, but the Duryea has been coming along for the ride.

John and his wife were heading north to Alaska, when they blew the rear end out of their motor home in Prince George on Wednesday, so while they waited for the parts, they dropped the old fellow,  and gave rides to a number of car buffs who had gathered when they saw the car.

John, who hopes to hit Alaska, catch some fish, and then head up to the Arctic, has been on the road , having left Bowling Green, Kentucky 10 days ago.

John is retired, having worked for Corvette for the past 35 years, so you may be riding around in one that he helped put together.

Our parting advice, make sure that you eat some real fish from our west coast.

We saw it while driving down Ospika last night and wondered what type of vehicle it was.
Thanks for the story and the update!

Dang kids riding around in their fancy horseless carriages. Back in my day we had to walk uphill both ways just to get the horses to pull our carriage into town which was also uphill both ways.

If the owner was from northern Alberta, you know it would be lifted 6 inches with big arse mudders and a chrome flame grill.

Lets not forget the balls dangling from the hitch

For what it’s worth, I don’t think they will find any fish from the west coast that will match wild Arctic Char, if they get the chance to sample it. Yummy!!!!!

Speaking of seafood, I tried some eastern halibut out here and I could barely finish it. It was horrific. It’s nothing like pacific halibut at all.

The cod and turbot though are very good and it arrives fresh from the Atlantic. The other neat thing is we get allot of of the fish from the east coast that you don’t see out west. Grouper is very good, as is atlantic salmon (tastes like a combination of pacific salmon and trout). I love heading to Lapointe (local fish monger) down in the market to check out all of the stuff from this side of the continent. I still miss fresh coho and pacific halibut though.

Oh and I don’t get why easterners get all excited for walleye/pickerel. I suppose it’s okay if there is nothing else on the menu, LOL.

Oh and can’t forget the Haddock for fish and chips. Okay, I’m done :)
