CEAA Calls for Input on Aurora LNG
Prince George, B.C.- The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) is calling for comments to determine if there will need to be an environmental assessment on the proposed Aurora LNG project.
The proposal calls for the construction, operation, and decommissioning of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and marine terminal at one of two alternative locations— Digby Island or Grassy Point— in the Prince Rupert area.
The project would include a natural gas receiving and LNG production facility with a capacity of up to 24 million tonnes of LNG per year, a marine terminal, and supporting infrastructure and facilities. The project is expected to operate for a minimum of 25 years.
If it is determined that an environmental assessment is necessary, then the Province of BC would like to have the BC Environmental Assessment process used rather than the federal process. The CEAA is also looking for comments on that request.
Written comments on the need for a federal environmental assessment and on the substitution request must be submitted by July 28, 2014 to:
