Beating the Heat
Prince George, B.C – The hot temperatures will be with us today and tomorrow, and that has been good news for some retailers in town.
The sizzling temperatures have helped clear the shelves at a major retailer.
Assistant Store Manager Richard Bundock with Central Builders says they sold all of their air conditioners and two thirds of their hoses, sprinklers and fans over the weekend.
In the meantime he says they've ordered in new stock to meet the growing demand.
Other appliance sellers are also reporting high demand for items that will cool the air, or at the very least, create a breeze.
Ice cream is selling fast at vendors in the city, and from freezers in the grocery stores. There is also high demand for bottles of water and bags of ice as people look for ways to stay hydrated and cool down.
While the health advice is to make sure you stay hydrated, and don’t over do it when it comes to exercise during a heat wave, there are tips to make sure your vehicle makes it through the hot times too.
Randy Osmond, of Randy’s Automotive Service says with this being a high travel time for vacationers, there are a couple of things you can do to make sure your vehicle doesn’t overheat and break down.
“First of all, make sure you have a good thermostat” says Osmond. He says having the a/c cranked wide open while the windows are down can also put stress on the vehicle “The Air conditioning system will be overworking just trying to keep up, and that could lead to a possible break down in the a/c.” Osmond also advises that if you are towing a trailer or boat, you might want to consider installing an auxiliary transmission cooler as vehicles work extra hard hauling during high temperatures.
